Both wines last nIght were quite nice. The chianti Classico is shut down at the moment and will revisit it in a couple of years. The nose was very nice and complex but the palate was quite muted; needs a lot more time.

The Riesling was delicious and lovely but also at that phase where it is just starting to develop more complex flavours and shedding its initial fruit so this needs more time.

Good potential for both

@baggio: haha, maybe u need to clean your house better? So far I have not had any issue with this. Maybe u can use cling film an poke holes?

To all: I will be taking a break from consuming, buying, reading about and interacting with wine (this forum included) for the next couple of weeks until early April for religious reasons. I hope y'all can continue the great discussions in the forum :D

Wine is fun, so make sure u have fun with it.

Gosh.<< it will definitely be very quiet>

To the rest: I still can't grasp the 'Breathing'. How to you know how long it does it take to open the wine as i understand over expose will result the wine to be too flat and under expose, we will not be able to taste the desire favor.

my stupid method:

open a bottle and taste it in an hour interval (2 hrly is better for me), take note of the vintage, type, terrior, make, etc.
after a few bottle you should get the hang of it.

- still learning.

Had a bottle of Domaine du Bois-Malinge Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie 2010 @ $30++ at Wine Connection during a catch up session with my friend.

Tried to google online but could not find anything related to 2010, only got reviews for the 2009 bottles. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the wine. Light bodied, not too dry, rich lemon flavor with hints of green apple.

Hey folks, I went for McHenry Hohnen wine tasting at boat quay last nite. Tried 3 whites and 3 reds, all scored >93pts by JH and pretty good stuff despite young age.

But the winner of the nite was Grace Koshu 2010 white from Japan!! Very delicate flora n elegant style, with good body to carry thru w silky finish. We were all so impressed by this bottle, and great to try something new from Japan.. Will try to get a few when the shipment arrives at straits wine..

Dear all, do you place your wine chiller in the kitchen ?

My new home's kitchen is pretty small, I was thinking of placing it in the study room but the flooring is timber laminated flooring ?

I place mine in the kitchen, near my main fridge. The flooring in my rooms are laminated flooring too, don't think they will take kindly to water in the event of some defrosting occurring.

More importantly, away from heat and direct sunlight, even though most wine fridges have tinted double-wall glass or metal doors.

Recommendations for gift

Hi All!

I'd like to get my bosses a gift to thank them for a promotion at work.

Any recommendations for good wine/champagne <$300? Ideally French as my bosses are. They may be fairly picky with their wine.

I was thinking of a nice champagne like Cristal for the big boss. I'm not sure how much it sells and I hear it is hard to source. What do you guys think? How about Laurent Perrier or other sparkling from LR? Or is DP worth the money?

For my direct boss maybe a nice bordeaux. I only know St Emillion but not sure which chateau/vintage I should consider. Like to hear what you guys think.

Budget can be stretched as I'd really like to show my appreciation. Maybe something that will have them go "Wow!" when I present them. So those famous/branded/reputable labels preferred even though they may not be the most "bang for buck".

TIA for your comments! :D

I have not drink those, but the cotes du rhone from Guigal is very good value wine. been drinking these for the past few months.

i'm concerned with the year as 2008 doesn't seems to be good year producing good wine. but want to buy 2008 for memento sake. irony isn't it?

Hi all, I have been receiving mailers for 2009 Bordeaux promo (wine exchange asia, crystalwine, cornerstone..) most of them are very great labels (but quite pricey). Anyone bought any 2009 vintage? Thinking of getting some from wine exchange Asia and baby kill them ...

Heh why you like to baby kill? 09 can keep long long, the 07 and 08 may be better for early drinking. Recenly Fairprice Finest have offers on the Chateau Desmirail (Margaux) and Les Fiefs de Lagrange at around 40-50 bucks. Our old friend Caveau is also selling the 07 Moulin Riche at the same price range.

Anyone went for the wine sale/tasting last week at Crystal Wines? Though only about 20 wines for tasting, it was a good chance to try some Brunellos and IGT Bordeaux-blends, as well as some really good Spanish wines. I liked the 06 San Polino BdM and 06 Alion Ribera Del Duero. The latter is a bodegas owned by Vega Sicilia.

More on the wine offer grapevine, I was at Tott (Toque) today and their Spanish wines are on promotion again. In La Rioja Alta & Muga (Rioja) and Arzuaga & Pesquera (Ribera del Duero) they really have almost everything a Tempranillo lover could want.

Yeah, a bit reluctant initially, don't really like this kind of mass-clustering fairground kind of activity usually because quality of interaction ain't gonna be very good.

But as the date draws nearer and the more I see the companies, chefs etc that are gonna be a part of this, am finding it difficult to resist.

The array of options seem mind-boggling; you can go there just for the gourmet food, chef workshops, wine masterclasses etc. Think I will just focus on wine and one chef class, and eat some of the gourmetfood so that I can drink more!

You mean for the Bordeaux or in general? I think overall it's quite ok, usually not much more expensive than other places for the generic brands. Sale and wine card membership prices are good too, though sometimes the sale doesn't discount by much; it pays to check the original price.

Maybe you are referring to the non-sale Bordeaux prices? Yes, may be a tad high, as compared to the many brokers, distributors, resalers etc. out there.

yah i meant those non-sale Bordeaux prices.

I think the only attractive prcie was near CNY where SHL was going at a good price.

other than that, the last real good offer was Lagrange at about $70.
