Had quite a lot of wines over the weekend! Will try to pen down some of my thoughts and notes on the wines.

1. Chateau Rouselle, 20003

Bought this together in a half case (2001-2006). Have so far drank the 01 and 02, now the 03. Nice, aromatic nose, medium notes of bouquet on the nose. Typical Bordeaux nose. First sip was very tannic, followed by a strong 'bite' in the middle of the mouth feel. Medium finish. Asked the wait staff to decant the wine for 30 mins. The tannic was all gone after that, and it felt like a totally different wine. The finish was much longer and smoother. Good after taste. Worth the $70 i paid for it.

2. Innocent Bystander, Pink Moscato 2011

This was part of the sampling flight at 1855 Bottle Shop. Started with this simple wine. Colour was shades of pink. Pretty. On first taste nothing but sugar. Took another sip. More sugar. No complexity, weak finish. Very 'soft drink' like. Don't like.

3. Pio Cesare Moscato D Asti 2011

Continued with the tasting flight. The best of the lot (my favourite, at least). Strong hints of tropical fruits on the nose. A small sip turned my partner a little crazy. Very refreshing, and lots of fruits on the mouth as well. Nice long finish and after taste. A very good MDA imho.

4. Paolo Saracco 2011

My next favourite after the Pio Ceasare. This one has very strong notes of lychee and longan on the nose. The nose lingers for a long time. A sip on the wine tells me this is pretty complex, several sweet tastes and sensations battling out at the same time, yet well orchestrated into a nice harmony. Beautiful finish. I was stunned for a moment there. Will buy more of this wine.

To be continued..

Continuing..

5. Fontanafredda Le Fronda MDA 2010

The name is quite a mouthful.. But the wine, is not. Having tried the Pio Cesare and Saracco, I had high expectations of this wine, but it didn't quite live up to it.. Overall was quite a pleasant wine, easy to drink, on the fruity side, but it doesn't expect my palette or spirit like the other two had.. Still, a decent wine.

6. Accademia Moscato Spumante 2010

I am a big fan of the Bottega Moscato Petalo Il Vino dell' Amore.. One of my all time favourite MDA.. Fizzy, lightly scented, refreshing, easy to drink.. Hard to find a fault with this one. The Accademia Moscato Spumante is the younger brother to the Petalo, so naturally I would have high hopes of this one.. And sadly, the expectations weren't matched by the wine on tasting. It had fell short on both the nose and taste, and the strong gas on the nose didn't help to appreciate the wine either.. The wine felt a little too acidic, and the sweetness overshadowed whatever flavour the wine was trying to generate. Disappointing on the whole.

7. Rioja, (Can't remember the maker..) Tempranillo, 2007

To be continued..

drank my 09 Muscadet (2009 Domaine Pierre de la Grange (Luneau-Papin) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie Le "L" d'Or) at Jumbo seafood on saturday evening for my sister's birthday.

Went excellent with the prawns and squid. the chilli crab sauce was too overpowering though. very slately, pithy, grapefruits and stoney. overall rather nice. not as linear or laser sharp due to it being a slightly warmer year in loire.

btw for those keen to get more wine info, i like this month's issue of DECANTER magazine.
in my opinion, it's the best wine mag out there.

Highlights include:
- Buy wine like an expert
- Does colour of a wine mean anything
- New classification legislation in Chianti Classico
- Interview of one of Spains hallmark producers 'Marques de Murrieta'
- Buying guides of '07 Brunellos, '11 Loire Whites, '11 German Rieslings and more

really worth the $15. available at Kino or at some Times bookstores.

not that midnight i hope! haha...

actually that is quite a versatile dish to go with red wine.

personally i would go with a rhone wine. i find steaks and rhone reds work well. for something low budget you can look for a Cotes du Rhone from any good producer. For something a little higher, the rhone region of Gigondas offers a good selection.

if u are really no money, the entry level shiraz from Tyrrell's - Mystery Hill Shiraz should be decent for the sub $20 price tag.

but of course u can drink any other red if u like, like cabs, merlots etc...if u got a good Chianti, that works too.

Garlic and beef is no problem. Even with stinky blue cheese melted on top of the steak a decent red wine would be able to handle it.

Part 2 sale is out.

Not getting anything from either part one or two. Low on cash and nothing really screamed "Must Buy" for me. But still a good opportunity for those of u who want to try more wines at decent prices. At most I may get the marsanne.

At th small DFS at the tanah merah ferry terminal to bintan. Prices are not bad. What's worth getting is the Jacobs creek Riesling steingarten, from Eden valley.

This is not the usual mass produced Jacobs creek wines but rather their higher end cuvée. Expect a slatey mineral style of Riesling of high quality. At $41 it's pretty good.
