anyone know where i can find this in sg?

Santa Rita Gran Hacienda Merlot 08?

Crystal Wines carry a wide range of wines from the producer Santa Rita. You can check out their website for their location at www.crystalwines.com

Any recommendations for value-for-money Riesling? <$30 preferably.

There are quite a number that are available.

IMO, a great value buy would be the 2007 Canterbury House Riesling from NZ. Simple but not simplistic and great value. You can find it in Cold Storage but the place that retails it the cheapest is at Carrefour.

The Cono Sur Riesling from Chile remarkably not bad as well, given the price; sold at Carrefour

The Cleebourg Riesling from Alsace is under $30 and is a good value buy, sold at Carrefour.

If you wanna top up just a couple of dollars, IMO you can start getting high quality rieslings for the price of about $35 for the range by one of the famous german producers: Selbach.

Their 'Selbach Riesling Fish Dry', 'Selbach Zeltiger Himmelreich Reisling Kabinett' and the 'Selbach Riesling Classic' are all top notch and IMO a level higher in terms of precision and finesse compared to the more entry (but still solid) level efforts that I had just mentioned. The Selbach range can be found only in Wine Connection outlets. you can find their outlets at Balmoral area, UE Square, Cuppage Terrace and one or two more i think. Do check it out!

i have considered it. i do it quite often with my wine buddies. but will this be more of an education thing or will it just be a chill out session?

and if each person bring a bottle doesn't that mean each person will finish one bottle? :O

actually what i do when my friends and i feel super cheapo is that we bring out bottle(s) and glasses to eat at hawker centre or food court.

i actually don't mind, as long as there is a minimum price per bottle a person would bring.

oh yes of course. that's how it's usually done in BYOB wine clubs. plus i would probably know if someone is bringing a really cheap bottle since I am very very familiar with most of the entry level brands and packaging.

but i guess the main thing now is to see what kind of response this thing will have.

so

Wine Appreciation Gathering - Interest check

We will probably dine at some food court/hawker center/free(cheap) corkage eatery
We will also probably do a BYOB (bring your own bottle) thematic thing.
Maybe for a basic appreciation we could be less stringent on the theme and just bring any bottle that looks interesting within a certain stipulated price range

If you are keen/interested please reply. You can ask around and get your friends/bf/gf/kaki whatever to join in. I don't like having too many people so probably around 8-10 people would be the max

money is always a messy tricky issue, especially with people i haven't interacted with on a physical level (no offence); people have to produce receipts etc...i'd rather individually we grab a wine each and we taste; give a range and certain labels to avoid. it's more fun to randomly pick stuff. don't worry about choosing the 'wrong' thing.

........or if you prefer, you buy the wines, show us the receipt and we split the cost.

imperial treasure noodle and congee at ION has free corkage and price is similar to Crystal Jade Kitchen. Prices for a main noodle dish for a person start below $10. Usually I buy at Marks and Spencer at Wheelock next door or at the Isetan Supermarket at Lido across the road.

haha...welcome...you can visit their webside also for more technical information of Chateau Fesles. Carrefour sells it; it's on discount now at the fair at Marina Square. but you might wanna let the 2005 one lie down for a couple of years more before opening.
