actually from the sales list from the Vinum website, their bordeaux that are under $100, a good portion of them are good buys.

as for the duhart milon, u can start drinking it in about 2 years. but if u really want it to develop more, give it another 7 years.

yup..aiming those ....looking at 2000 Lascombes, 2001 Le Bon Pasteur, 2005 Moulin St Georges,2007 Magdelaine

went this early this afternoon.

For those who intend to buy some of their wine at Vinum. I STRONGLY suggest you go tomorrow 'cos when i went today, some of the popular stuff i was considering were sold out already! today is only the 2nd day of the sale. I also STRONGLY suggest you call up before hand and get them to set aside the wines for you to pick up. In addition, not all the wines listed are instore; some are in their warehouse, so call in advance confirm your order.

The biggest discounts were found in their spanish section (spanish wines in SG aren't as popular so they typically are more heavily discounted - yay for me since spain is one of my fave countries).

I bought 2 bottles of their 2008 Egon Muller Scharzhof QbA. Thought it may be an 'entry level' for Egon Muller, this is a very good bottle of wine from a very very good producer of a very good vintage. One of them is for me to drink soon, the other is to age it another 6-8 years. 10 year old well made dry rieslings are very good.

The other one I bought as a bottle of 2006 Alion from Ribera del Duero, Spain. This is an estate purchased by the famous maker of top of the line premium spanish wines: Vega Sicilia group in Spain. This estate was purchased for their company to produced top wines that don't have to be aged for 30-40 years like the Vega Sicilia Unico, but can be drunk within 20 years. I probably won't open this one until at least 2017 to 2020.

i also wanted to buy the Artadi Vina El Pison, from Spain, but too bad. sold out liao.

Just do your research properly, check if there is stock before u purchase.

Yes, please call before you go. For the offer items, you have to give your credit card number over the phone to secure the items. Check their webpage as they have updated items that are sold out. I was there in the afternoon today and stuff that i've marked were either sold out or in their warehouse. Walked away with only 2 bottles. :(

Yup i got the 07 de la mission. Must keep that for another 3-5 years.

I was impressed with the cellar. Too many Petrus/Margaux/Le Pin/Latours in such a small space. Got one of their catalogues which states that magnums are more precious than bottles. How true is that?

I'm aiming to get the 08 and 09 la mission haut brion but when i checked out the en primeur prices for 09, my jaw dropped to the floor. 08/09 seemed to be good years for Bordeaux wines.

forget about 08. it's the 09 that is supposed to be good. but as the industry as developed over the years, the bordeaux market is very tired about every other vintage being claimed as the 'vintage of the decade/century'. there are many discussion about this in online wine forums; but the general consensus for most consumers they won't really take part in the 09 en primeur as they no longer give you that pricing advantage as much as last time. case in point, there are wine retailers in SG that market their discounted (and some with bottle age) higher end bordeaux at prices that are lower than 'en primeur'.

while i do not doubt the quality of the bordeaux 2009 vintage, the justification for further inflated prices is something i do not agree on. being on a budget, i have my sights on other french regions and other countries. I'm hitting more Loire, Alsace and Rhone wines for France and also sourcing for great wines from the Languedoc that are so much more competitively priced. unless you are a baller rolling in the cash, i will just wait until the 09 prices pop and retailers have to discount them when they realize that they cannot sell it. But all this is just my opinion that i have garnered :s12:

3-5 years looks fine. i read a couple of reputed tasting notes. this wine is not really meant for the long haul, due mostly to the 07 being a generally weaker vintage. but still has nice fruit and stylish grip.

Magnums (1.5L) bottles are supposedly better because from what i was told, that through experiments, magnums are the most optimal bottle size for a wine to age. for me it's just too expensive and i don't have space haha....

Yes i do agree that the prices for the en primeur is too high even comparing to previous vintages. My pocket is not deep enough for the crazy prices they are asking for.

I noticed too that 07 vintages are pretty cheap due to it being known as a weak vintage. As a result, there are many good deals for 07 vintages going for low prices.

yeah they offer some pretty good deals. still u must do your research before purchase.
IMO some of the better deals for a classic bordeaux vintage is the 2004 vintage.

just some update on the 2005 Lamothe Bergeron I drank with some friends last Friday over dinner.

As I had originally suspected and put it plainly, the wine wasn't as good as I had originally tasted. It could have been the hype and environment or the placebo effect or whatever, but that bottle of bordeaux wasn't up to snuff. We drank it over a period of 3 hours so we can't complain of a lack of oxygen.

the nose was nice and simple with pleasant red fruits and some soil
but the palate disappointed. There was good rounded mouthfeel and balance of acidity, also the tannins were fine enough to give a well-received structure. But the issue was just the taste of it, seemed rather hollow and the lack of good fruit. When you drink it and analyze it, it just seems to be lacking something. And even at that price point, it is possible to get something better.

The wine drank better when paired with some meat and gravy but if you have those wines, i would suggest you drink them soon. nothing much to improve on here, in my opinion.

unfortunately the Carrefour Mega Sale at expo does not include wine. but there are a host of other deeply discounted items ranging from groceries to electronics to household goods.
