For those who are interested, C4 having a wine sale at their Plaza Sing branch again. Mostly a mixture of 07/08/09 french on sale and a penfolds bar at the end. As usual Penfolds has their Kanooga (not sure if i spelt it correctly) hill on tasting, but you do get a glass of RWT with any Penfolds wine purchase.
Don't see any interesting item there at all.... :(

Hey all, there are several big wine events coming this april/may period which will be a good opportunity for you to experience many different types of wines. While they may not necessarily be cheap in terms of absolute numbers, but the amount and quality of wines you get to taste at this event will more than make up for it.

The first event is 'Burghound in Asia'. Burghound is the de-facto authority online on wines from Burgundy. Headed by Allen Meadows, it seeks to provide information and everything there is to know about Burgundy wines.

The Burghound in Asia event is centered around a one day tasting of 200 over wines, predominantly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay since these are the two varietals that Burgundy is famous for. Expect wines from various countries and Burgundy made from these varietals and in different styles. In addition, there are several masterclasses you can sign up for to gain an insight into the varietal, style and region.

The ticket for the main tasting event is $98. By no means is this a 'cheap' event, but from the list of wineries represented, I believe that $98 is considered a 'steal' in the grand scheme of things. This will be a good chance for you to get a grip on these varietals and its various expressions depending on the region they are made in.

Check out more at : http://www.burghoundinasia.com/

DISCLAIMER: in no way am i affiliated to the event, its organizer and it's participating wineries. I am just looking for 9 more people who are going to the event so we get a group discount haha...

Reserve De La Comtesse 2007 price increase to $52 i heard..but not bad for weekly drink at budget price..

Popped by Bottles & Bottles this evening at Vivocity. Lots of bin end items on sale. Bought a 2002 Killibinbin Blend for $35 (regular priced item) and a 2007 Chateau d'Esclans Rose $20.

THe Killibinbin is a Cabernet (65%) and Shiraz (35%) blend and the website suggested up to 5 years from vintage. However at 9 years of age, this is drinking very nicely. Not the most complex but very delicious and would pair well with heavy foods due to the full bodied nature of the wine. I just drank it for dinner, tasting notes here: http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=6984

The Rose is apparently one of the most expensive Rose in the world, from Provence. This is the 3rd tier wine, originally retailing at $50+, but now at $20. Bottles & Bottles also retails the higher end rose at $100+ but now at discount at $40, which is a ridiculous steal for really top of the line rose. I bought the $20 one as I was on a budget.

They have several other items on sale as well including a $15 cava (spanish sparkling).

Reserve De La Comtesse is the second wine of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, but also depending on price..how much are they selling at crystal?

for $50, 2007 is quite bang for buck in my opinion..

i dunno why the reserve de la comtesse is so popular. Tried it before but nothing much to rave about, at least for my palate. i think there are better bordeaux values out there, for $50 bucks you can get great wine from other parts of the world and other regions of france.

Depends on the vintage. 2007 is nothing to shout about, but the 2005 i had 2 weeks before was really good.

which year you tried?

wine taste is subjective..some people can accept Shiraz while others can't..

recommend me some $50 wines..will be glad to try more varieties too..

hold the sociando for another 7 years and the auslese for another 10 years, if you can wait that long.

Thank you for the suggestion...we have to buy something decent/ affordable now but patience required...then we can have something to enjoy 7-10 years later, right ? :s13:

On the other hand, if there is any suggestion which is affordable ie. around S$50 / well aged or mature now / decent enough...if there is any bottle like this available in Singapore market at all ? :s11:

of course! when we all get into wine we buy stuff for the medium to long term while there must always be a steady stream of daily drinkers or stuff to drink within the year. i can't think of any right off the top of my head as I usually browse various wine stores to see if they go any interesting stuff.

a lot of us drink our bordeaux a little too early, but i guess that's when the fruit is the brightest but the wine is also at its most tannic. however you can start drinking bordeaux from less than optimal vintages such as the 02, most of which are falling into their drinking window now and are tasting pretty good.

the 02 aussie shiraz I drank 2 days ago tasted pretty good at 9 years old. the wine store/restaurant at Funan carries a lot of aged wine as well. sometimes u just gotta go rummage through the wine store and their bin ends and you may find a hidden gem.
