there is a Spanish + Italian sale & tasting at Crystal Wines today.
Sadly i've got something else on so cannot go. for those who haven't had much experience with european wines outside of France, this is a good opportunity to taste them.

just had a bottle of 2008 Poggio Alla Guardia at Botanic Garden's today, watching the SAF military band play at the stage. Drank it with some black pepper & herb brie cheese, italian salami and australian cured pork shoulders. Very excellent. 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet, 15% Sangiovese.

No oak treatment. Vibrant fruit and cherry flavours with spiciness coming out at the end. medium bodied with fresh acidity, perfect for cutting through the cheese and cured meats. terrific wine from tuscany.

wow that is expensive. Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir costs $60 - $70 regular retail price in SG.

yeah that's why i try not to buy wines in restaurants unless it's rare or of an old vintage.

Just an update, so I will be leaving SG on the 8th May for Tuscany. I will be travelling with the gf to Florence and stay with one of my buddies at his place for the first 3 days. Then the rest I will rent a car and drive out to the surrounding wine region of Chianti and Montalcino specifically.

Hope to drink loads of Italian wine while I am there and visiting good producers. I am hoping this will give me a deeper understanding of Tuscan wines as I have not had too much experience with them. Will definitely send reports back to this forum while I am there!

sounds great !!! :)
Questions...supposed italian is not as easy as Australian winery cellar doors ...you can just walk in ..and tasting wine..so you did all the visiting arrangement in advance and how long it takes ?

you mentioned driving...then how to make balance between drink / drive from a chateau to another ?

So far all the Italian wineries I have contacted require an appointment and a fee for the tour and tasting. I am still in the midst of arranging and researching which wineries I want visit. I am arrange them now about 1.5-2 months in advance. Early may is not really the peak tourist season (that is in mid june to end july) so it’s quite easy to set a date.

The people I have been liaised with so far write good English (they’re from internationally known wineries so I guess English I no problem) and sound very friendly.

Because it’s a different area, different car and different side of the road, I will have to be a prudent drinker. While driving around and tasting, I would have to spit out most if not all of it. Beside I can buy the bottle back to the apartment if I like it to drink it for dinner or something. At the very most I will drink a glass. I will always have lots of water with me and never drink on an empty stomach.

of course, doing a whole bunch of research to see where i wanna eat. from nice restaurants to family trattorias to roadside street food joints. in addition, since i am staying at a friend's place while in Firenze, i am gonna head by their central market and pick up some produce and whip up a nice dinner on one of the evenings.

Water & Wine @ Biopolis (or was it Fusionopolis?) is having a 30%-50% sale. Do check it out to get some good deals on American wine.

Booze wine shop at Republic Plaza is having a wine sale. Visit their website www.booze.com.sg and see their sales list (if it's not there just email them). I got a 1999 Cornas (Cornas is a region in the northern Rhone, 100% syrah) at a very good price.

www.wineexchangeasia.com is having a promotion for d'arenberg wines. including the 07 d'arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz for $65! drinking window is estimated up till at least 2020.

from Booze? nice.

i am really flooded with a lot of 'sales' and stuff, but i am super tight this money and saving some extra cash for Florence and the sh|tloads of wine I will be tasting there.

you should try to drink your CdP within these next 2 years. it should be drinking quite well at this stage, given the vintage.

Right ! from Booze.

I did have this Cdp Blanc about 2 years ago...I would say it is a very top class French white...even so so vintage...it should be drunk well next 3-4 years...

And Robert Weil...I don't think I can get the price even in Europe...and last bottle in Sing.:s13:

@reign, they still have a whole bunch of stuff, while stocks last of course. browse through their list, shortlist the ones you want and email them if they're still available.
