wine wise, i think there's currently 3 bottles for 6 people is plenty so you can hold your carrefour wine for another outing :)

i don't mind doing it earlier but the restaurant doesn't open so early. earliest is 11.30am i think.

I'm OK for 1130am. Cheers!

use first loh...but eventually if you want to have a small collection i would recommend you upgrade to a larger proper one.

met up with a friend last night at (IMO the best wine bar in SG) Taberna. Shared a bottle of 2001 La Rioja Alta 'Vina Arana' from Rioja, Spain. Beautiful wine.

The owner recognized me and let me try a 2009 Rymill 'The Yearling' Cabernet Sauvignon & 2008 Rymill Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, Australia. The Yearling is the entry level version of the their cabernet sauvignon but both wines showed very well. Rich balanced flavours with classic Coonawarra typicity.

Then later in the evening he shared the wine he was having for dinner with us: 2009 Keller Estate 'Oro de Plata' Chardonnay from Sonoma, Califormia. a 14.1% alc chardonnay! This one was big and rich but had a vibrant streak of acidity running through it; well balanced with the oak notes.

mmmmm....

you guys should try to visit here at least once. plus u can order the food from the neighbouring peranakan place or zhi char place or the pizza place and eat in Taberna with no extra charge. They open from Wednesday to Sunday, 6pm - 12am (sometimes more).

THe wines they serve can't really be found in other places. the wine menu changes periodically as the owner wants to have small quantities of really good wine and keep changing it. This is truly a wine lovers wine bar, not the commercial type with the predictable brand and labels. This may not be the cheapest of wine bars but it's the definitely the best one in my book.

dunno where to find it but it seems to be a sweet dessert style wine made from the Priorat region from the local grapes of macabeo and garnacha blanca. The online prices I saw for 1L in Europe cost EU 2.90

may i know where did u hear about this?

haha one of my uncles brought it back, took a sip and fell in love with it immediately! He forgot where he bought it from as it's been quite sometime, but definitely overseas.

Up for any bros/sis help. Btw, how could u tell that it is a sweet dessert style wine?

usually you'd just have to know. typically in countries like australia, NZ, chile they will say 'late harvest' which would indicated a sweeter style of wine, but this is just a guide, the level of sweetness would vary between the various producers.

in france wines from sauternes are dessert wines while other parts of france may label it as demi-sec or molleux (off dry and sweet respectively). In the Layon region it may be called Coteaux du Layon. There are many sub regions in France that have their own name for sweet wine.

In germany, in increasing sweetness 'spatlese, auslese, beerenauslese, trockenbeerenauslese/eiswein (ice wine). Just make sure there is no word 'trocken' behind the words mentioned above.

Google 'dessert wine' and u will get quite a good bit of info, especially on wiki on the various types and regions that produce dessert wine.
