I used to have a thermoelectric chiller which was struggling to maintain a temperature of 13-14 deg. Lowest it could go was 14-15 in an a/c room. It's better to buy compressor based chillers, especially those with a built in circulation fan for even temperature distribution.

Thanks for the advise. For reds, recc temp is 18 degrees right?

A dinner with a good wine will help to strengthen the relationship.Hope you had a good outing. The taste of the wine also depends on the temperature at which it is stored. For many of the wine lovers , wine cellar filled with bottles from all over the world is a pride.

I see. For thermoelectric, small ones should not be a prob so wld be good for 8. For me, I already have 12 bottles... :s22:

Bros wanted to ask this. My wine cooler broke down for several weeks le and while i am still looking for a new one, should I just leave the wines in the faulty cooler or should I shift all of them into my fridge? Either option the temp are at the extreme :(

wines are not so fragile that a couple of day/weeks/months or even a year in sub-optimal temperatures will not ruin them. As long as the area you keep them in is dark and its 20s, It's fine. Besides I don't think the wines most of us are keeping are 30-50 years old; those are more fragile.

Lol, I have a few crate of '93 Mouton Rothschild stashed in the corner of my storeroom, checked them 5 weeks ago and they still look good. As well as 2 bottles of '88 Dom Perignon displayed on an open wine rack in my kitchen which are still in perfect condition.

Main thing is when you transport or store wines, especially vintage wines, don't shock them; ie, don't change their temperatures too quickly by refrigeration or agitate the bottles too much and they should be fine :) and don't poke and be itchy backside and touch your bottles until you want to drink them.
