@wahakuy: yes you should. it's fun and there's always food ;)

@reign: yeah, that's a good way to start. but i would like to do an integrated wine consulting and education service to earn some side income and pursue a passion from it. any suggestions on avenues to try and start in?

celebrated my gf's graduation with a lunch with her family. brought along a 2007 Chappellet Mountain Cuvee, Napa Valley, California. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as the majority, with a sprinkling of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. An old school Bordeaux blend.

Drank very well. The 2007 vintage in the Napa Valley was really a good one. Bought this when I was in Chicago last year on an overseas competition from uni

since no one has contributed yet, i will contribute with a suggestion:

French Affair:
Eat at the French hawker store at Joo Chiat "Saveur" (duck confit for $13.90). Bring your own glasses and bring a French wine from any region between $30 - $50.

i really love half bottles.

Tuesday I bought a bottle of 2007 Dr Burklin-Wolf Riesling Trocken, Pflaz, Germany from Booze wine store which was on sale.

When i got home I opened the bottle for dinner, poured half of the bottle through a funnel into an empty half bottle, corked it and kept it in my wine cooler. I slowly drank the delicious half bottle that was left over the rest of the evening.

Brought the remaining half bottle out for dinner last time for a chinese dinner and still tasted as fresh with a bit more complexity and opened up quickly in the glass.

I really love half bottles, they give me more options and let me enjoy the wine for a longer period of time. who needs a 'wine-save' when you have half bottles?

What type of bottles and where you get them for your half bottles bro?

what i meant was that the original riesling i bought came in the regular sized 750ml bottles. but i have spare empty half bottles (375ml) lying around at home. So i wash and dry them and use them to keep wines I know I cannot finish.

So i opened the 750ml and poured half of it to fill up the 375ml bottle and corked it with a neutral cork.

The remaining half in the 750ml bottle I drank slowly over the evening.

Having half bottles around help to keep the wine longer over the next day while maintaining the freshness because sees little oxygenation as you transfer from a new bottle to a smaller bottle.

ask around in wine retailers whether they sell wines in half bottles. I know in ENOTECA at taka basement they have a nice selection of half bottles.

Noted bro. But whats the difference of your half bottle method and the usual method of pouring our what you wanna drink, then corking back while pumping out the air from the original bottle and keeping it back to the wine fridge?

call me a naturalist. when you fill up an empty half bottle, the amount of air inside is negligible and is basically like opening a new bottle of wine. even when you pump the air out of 750ml bottle that is half full, it is not an absolute vacuum. plus having spare half bottles lying around is convenient for bringing around without spending that extra cash on argon sprays and pumps. but this is my preference.

you could try the german riesling by Selbach-Oster at Wine Connection. It's about the price range ($30+) and off dry.

i did a quick splash decant: pour it out to a non-reactive container (glass etc...) and pour and back into the bottle through a funnel. as it splashes around the bubbles will oxygenate your wine over time. Kind of like a 'teh tarik' kind of thing but not so high.
