Ok then please include me and my wife for the Sat outing on 6 Aug.

For the Riesling, maybe I'll try some Saar riesling, so put me down for option 4: Van Volxem Saar Riesling 2009, RRP $50 ==> Now $40
Ratings: JR 16.5/20

Hmm, maybe I'll give them (Saveur) a call or drop by and check if we can BYO at the coffee shop.

From what I tried with my friends and colleagues last week - duck confit, beef medallion, salmon confit, chicken roulade - they were all pretty good, with nice sides that complement the dish well. The mashed potatoes and mushrooms that went with the duck; the sliced cabbage with the salmon; the basmati rice and sliver of foie gras with the chicken; all wonderful and cleaned off the plate by us. The quality of the ingredients is telling, and this beats other budget French places like La Cuisine (Serene Ctr) and French Stall hands down.

If pushed for a recommendation I would go for the duck, cos I love that classic dish. I'm the type that likes to try the same thing everywhere I go, be it duck confit, pizza margherita, wanton mee or pistachio gelato. Duck leg cooked in duck fat, too bad my doctor won't let me have this every day:p

ok for riesling order to finalize:

yehosaphat:
- Kesselstatt RK Riesling 2009 $36
- Van Volxem Saar Riesling 2009 $40

reign:
- Kesselstatt RK Riesling 2009 $36
- Kesselstatt Josepshofer Riesling Kabinett 2009 $46

ikileo:
- Kesselstatt Josepshofer Riesling Kabinett 2009 $46
- Van Volxem Saar Riesling 2009 $40

Last call for orders. Will send final orders this evening.

2009 was a really good vintage overall for Germany, comparable to 2007. These babies are able to keep for the medium term. You can enjoy them now, but if u have the patience, you can hold it for another 3-5 years.

i can't see the producer name.

Valpolicella is the region name.
Ripasso is the style of making wine with dried grapes.
I assume the gold letters on the bottom right of the first picture could be the producer name but i can't see it clearly.

Have you tried it?

Should be good! Valpolicella is a wine from the Veneto region of Italy, using a mixture of grapes and when developed using different processes, produce a few different types of wine.

The Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is developed using the Ripasso style, and the Superiore indicates certain aging and alcohol content. The Valpolicella Ripasso sits in the middle between an entry table Valpolicella to the highly regarded Amarone, often presented as a second wine for Amarone producers.

I'll leave you to read up on the fascinating details on the wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valpolicella#Ripasso

I've not had a Ripasso Superiore though; only entry-level Valpolicella and Amarone, and enjoyed both. Just a note, Italian wines tend to go better with food.

Much also depends on the price; a Valpolicella is about 20-30 bucks, Amarone 60+ - 100+ for the good ones. I would think if this is around 30-40 bucks it's worth a try, maybe 50 bucks if it's from a good producer. Anything above that will be Amarone territory.

Here's the tasting and pairing notes from this producer, Tinazzi:
http://www.tinazzi.it/en/wines/8/valpolicella-doc-superiore-ripasso-tinazzi---conique

Just give it a shot if you've not tried it before.

hey guys, i have placed the order. the guy has given me a free delivery. so he will deliver to my office on monday. from there we can arrange a time I can pass it to you.

Wine Dinner 'Saveur' Current Attendees:
ikileo +1
reign +1
swirl84 +1
looiwte +1

Total pax: 8

I think 8 pax is just nice. we can have 4 wines. All french, although it's a bit too late but don't tell us what wine you are bringing, so that we can all taste them blind. if you are hardcore enough you can even cover the label or wrap it up in foil (serious) to make sure it's really blind. If you think you wine needs to breathe a bit more, you can decant/splash decant/bottle breathe or whatever before the dinner.

wholesale wines

Hey Guys,

In case anyone is keen on Italian wines, i have started to import wines directly from the vinyards itself in Tuscany and Piedmont. Most of them are rated by Robert Parker and Wine Spectator, and prices are very competitive.

Any questions or special requests for Italian wines, I have the contacts to the vineries.

Crystal Wines is having a flash sale for this NDP. one of the items is the:

2009 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese

going for $38.88

IMO a great deal for a good producer from a very good vintage. you could drink it now, but that would be infanticide. leave it open for at least a day or two before drinking (seriously). but if you have the patience, keep it for at least another 10-15 years. or buy a couple and drink every 2-3 years.

full list here: http://www.crystalwines.com/images/form/National Day 2011 Special.pdf
