was at Le Benaton at Bukit Timah Road earlier this evening, picked a bottle of wine to drink at my dinner at Cocotte next week.

2001 Boillot Domaine de la Truffière, Vin de pays d'Oc, Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc

managed to get a taste at the store. 100% syrah from the sub region of Pic Saint Loup in the Languedoc which is in the south of france. It is one of the more premium areas in Languedoc and this domaine is owned by famous Burgundy producer JM Boillot who also ventured into Languedoc to make a different style of wine.

even though it has been opened (and sealed) for a couple of days, it is still drinking beautifully which suggests that this wine is still quite young and can go on for a couple more years.

for those of you who are very familiar and drink the Australian shiraz quite often, try to expand your palate by drinking some french Syrah (which is shiraz), most famously from the Rhone region where Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage feature 100% Syrah wines. The stylings will definitely be different compared to the more new world shiraz.

also picked up some blue cheese...

in general, guy kinda look down on the sweet stuff and say it is only for ladies. of course there is a lot of cheap @ss sweet sugar water out there that girls will stuff push down their throats. but there are some high end moscato d'asti that are really good.

and for those who are more adventurous, go and try a DRY wine made from the muscat grape; very different.

but also keep in mind that in the world of wine, high quality dessert/sweet wines command a very high price too.

I like Moscato d'Asti. Italian makes good moscato. German reisling, spatlesse especially. Haha...

You are what you drink if you believe in it. Pinot and reisling for me. :)

There's a wine fair going on at the atrium at suntec. Quite a few good new zealand labels and of course the usual french to check out. There's a chateau brillete 1999 magnum going for $80+, good if you have friends to drink with.

no dinner, please eat something beforehand.
wine connection is a wine retailer and a wine bar so no need to bring own wine.

Hi, somehow my last message was not logged in...:(
Yes able to make it on 7th.... so 8pm @ Wine Connection (Cuppage) confirmed!
Could I also bring another friend along? Interested to learn more as well ... thanks for the sharing session....
If you log on to Wine Connection website, they are rolling out "new" promotion.
So how do we identify each other from this Wine Thread?

yeah sure thing, you can bring a friend.
Wine Connections has some new stuff, but the best is we just do down to the store itself and see for ourselves, 'cos they may not stock everything in their Cuppage branch, due to space constraints.

as for identifying each other, you wanna wear name tags? we just meet at a central local first. on the day itself we can update on the forum on how we look or we can PM to each other our cell phone number.

Current Attendees:
ikileo
wine learner
wine learner's friend

Tentative Attendees:
Nautilus
reign
ikileo's friend
condor

For the tentative attendees please confirm by tomorrow latest.

So for those who still dunno the details:

Date: 7 Oct 2010, Thurs
Time: 8pm
Location: Wine Connection, Cuppage Terrace
Remarks: No food will be provided, you can order finger snacks at the bar but if you eat them, you pay for them. I highly advise everyone to have their dinner prior to attending. And please be punctual, don't make everyone else wait for you.

Thanks
