Ok noted. BTW thanks for your review of the Arthur Metz Riesling. I was contemplating on opening my bottle soon but after reading your notes, i think i'd better hold on for 3-5 years.

it's extremely delicious now though...haha, but i think 3 years would be good.
i've had 6-8 year old mid-range alsatian rieslings that had matured nicely.

BTW, there are quite a few Alsatian whites for tasting at the C4 wine fair. Tried a Gewurztraminer (forgot the brand name) which was rather good with lots of lychee and petroleum. Price was a bit steep at $39.

You'll probably find it quite interesting as there are folks from TLN who are promoting some new Wineries from NZ. Free tasting of different varietals from Central Otago, Hawkes bay and others. The Elephant Hill reserve Syrah is a must try. The french whites are along the same row as the cashier so don't miss out.

If you are a Malartic fan, they have quite a few bottles of 06 there, but it's going for $83 each.

Where is TLN?

I wanted to try our Malartic.... but no chance yet....is it that good? Cos i always find the label very plain... speak volume of itself.

TLN, stands for 'THE LOCAL NOSE', it is a singapore wine web portal and group of wine afficionados that offer weekly reviews of wine in singapore, organize wine events and retail promotions. they do not sell wine in general but they link up with various wine retailers, especially carrefour. go and check out their website: www.thelocalnose.com

but as with anything, take all wine reviews (including mine) with a pinch of salt as that is just their own opinion of the wine according to their palate. we all have different palate.

which malartic do u have? the Malartic La-Graviere? or the Sillage de Malartic? which vintage? labels are a very poor way of evaluating how good a wine is, there are many good wines out there with very plain labels.

update: there is a one day taste & order sale at one of the more premium retailers: Crystal Wines (www.crystalwines.com)

This sale if for new world wines: Australia, Argentina, Chile, USA, South Africa, New Zealand.

Discounts range from 15% to 20% off. You can click on the link for this tasting event on their front page to download their discounted price list.

Given my limited budget there are some nice stuff from Australia and Chile I am particularly looking out for, around $50 and below.

The wheel of taste that I mentioned. But as I said unless you want to be a professional or for mental stimulation, there's no need to be too technical about wine drinking. What matters is you enjoy the wine. There's little value in being able to dissect and regurgitate history and facts but if you do not enjoy the wine.
