of course, your other option would be to wait for some wine sale (there are quite a couple during this season) and pick up a good deal. the next sale is organized by Wine Gallery and will take place on 4th Dec 2010 - The Wine Gallery, 32 Kallang Place

oof...came back about an hour or so ago. made my way to first to Extra Space Boon Keng to pick up my 2010 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling & 2010 Grosset Springvale Riesling (2010 looks so wierd on a wine label!)

then took a bus to Crystal wines to pick up:
- 05 Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot
- 06 Zema Estate Cabernet
- 08 Joh Jos Prum Riesling Kabinett
- 08 Joh Jos Prum Riesling Auslese
- 01 Domaine Huet Vouvray Brut

and now i am broke...haha, cannot buy anymore wine this month. actually these were all orders i made in nov. I will be drinking the Vouvray tomorrow afternoon at my grandma's birthday lunch. it's from the Loire Valley in France and it is a sparkling wine made from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes; $33, good price.

i have finally chosen a wine to bring when i have a burger dinner with my friend this evening. 2007 Sottimano Nebbiolo, Langhe, Piedmonte, Italy. Will report back this evening or tomorrow.

I popped the 2001 Domaine Huet Vouvray Brut just now over lunch at Lei Garden. Very nice food at good price. The wine was spectacular in my opinion. Crisp, dry, powerful, elegant. my first sparkling wine made from chenin blanc grapes. even at the original price of about $50 i'd buy it again. really very good and much much better than a lot of the overpriced entry level big producer champagnes you see out there.

i've not had it, but from online tasting notes from the wine community it seems like a pretty good wine, that tastes great now and will benefit for another 5 or more years.

you can try opening one now, decant it, and enjoy it with a meal, while your second bottle sleeps for a couple of years.

as with most right bank wine appellations, Chateau Larmande is predominantly made from Merlot grapes, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon making up the rest.

Ya.. Off to my wardrobe. hehe Will be keen to open the 2001 french wine you have recommended. But the corkage is $30++ at lawry. What do you think? Worth it?

if it's a special occasion and you are going to order a nice steak, then why not. most restraunts of that pricepoint have similar corkage prices anyways. Be sure to let it breathe for a long time before drinking.

the restaurant i opened it have about a $25 or $30 corkage fee also, i can't remember. about there lah. There are cheaper but less romantic options.

what temperature is your wardrobe? because if you are keeping stuff for several years, it's wise to invest in some proper wine storage.

Hopefully I can post something by the end of the week. I will keep ya'll updated.

For the Temp. Definitely will not be very cold , still cool maybe 23/24 deg.

Ya you are right, since it is NOT everyday that we go to lawry for dinner, moreover 1-1 offer by POSB Credit Card. So just do it. SO do you recommend that i open the bottle maybe in the day and hands over the wine to the restaurant around 6pm for decanting as my dinner is at 7.30pm.

do the method of slow oxygenation. Before you sleep the night before, uncork your bottle, and just let it sit in a cool ventilated place. That night i just turned on the air conditioning (i usually don't) and just put the open bottle on my table in my room as i slept. I recorked it about 2pm but i feel you can leave it uncorked until you have to go for dinner.

don't need to decant it, just pour out the wine in the glasses and enjoy a long dinner and enjoy how the wine evolves further in the glass.

also for your own personal enrichment, i would suggest trying the wine at various stages. So when you just opened the bottle before you go to sleep, pour out just a little, swirl it a bit, take a sniff and sip it down. Do the same thing the next morning when you wake up and then when you actually drink it with you gf, you can make the comparisons at different stages. Keep in mind u just have to pour out a bit, enough for one or two sips, just to get a feel of the wine.

sometimes i don't fully recommend an extended decant, unless it really is a very young and tight wine and you want to drink it as soon as possible. i find the slow oxygenation tends to let the wine open more naturally and becomes more expressive. there is no hard science to back this up, just my experience and other wine enthusiasts'.

i once brought a 2002 white wine from a good american producer to work, uncorked it and let it sit in my office the whole day before recorking it and bringing it to dinner. It was very expressive and lovely. The downside is that it is very time consuming and u need to do your research to see if the wine is meant to be drunk very quickly or something that you have to let breathe for a while.

regarding temperature, if you are going to keep for 3 years or more, i would really recommend you invest in a proper storage conditions.

haha yeah have you tried it b4? give me revew and tips..
Although i have 3 bottles of this I only briefly tried it during a tasting event. Very floral nose but the body is only average. Quite a far cry from the 05 which is maybe why they are selling at such a dirt price. But still, you can't beat it for the price - it's almost hard to find something equivalent!

BTW, C4 having a wine event at the PS outlet on 16 dec onwards. Wondering if they will cut the prices further.

Hi guys! Need wine recommendation.

Gonna make pasta for dinner tonight. Prob ravioli.

Any recommendation for a White sub $35 that I should be able to find in cold storage?

My gf likes Riesling. I was recommended gewürztraminer by a friend. Any comments?

Thanks in advance!
