oof...what a tiring day. after standing around tasting wines and didn't eat much food, i trodded off to kinokuniya to buy comics (20% off).

as for the vino, i will post more details later. I only had one sicilian wine, their classic nero d'avola which was nice and rich.

there was a lot of showing from Fruili and the Vento Region, which i don't get to taste a lot so that was very a very good way to get in touch with the styles and grapes

the other regions not so much.

and i dunno why again, i was not impressed at all by the biondi santi BdM, despite tasting it a 2nd time after my visit to their winery in May. For me it was severely underwhelming considering the level of pedigree attached to it.I prefered their other 100% sangiovese grosso wine made by their son in another vineyard.

There are different brands and different product ranges.

I got my Vacuvin set, the cheapest one I found, at Robinsons for around 20 bucks.

http://www.winebos.com/shopcart/WineAccessories.html

The same brand has a nicer looking gift set, with a metal pump as opposed to a plastic one, complete with 2 wine servers and 2 stoppers, for 69 bucks.

http://www.shermay.com/retail_vacuvin.htm

Thanks. I guess i'll get it from robinsons. the exact same plastic one is being sold here at A$69! Thats almost S$100.

Water & Wine is having a good promo on Pierre Paillard Champagne. Their NV brut, NV rose and 02 millesime; all grand cru.

Great prices inclusive of half bottles and magnums. I got me a rose and brut. U should get the 02. Unfortunately I fun have the funds.

Hmm...maybe they really need to be laid down for decades??
Which is hardly practical for us normal peeps.'

Wonder if it's gotta do with the identity of Brunello in the days of yore... not so readily drinkable.

1855 Bottle Shop having a NV Champagne tasting this Friday & Sat at their Triple One outlet and on Sat for their 6th Avenue Outlet.

Some nice deals, but IMO none of the offered champagne that beats the Pierre Paillard promo that I posted yesterday.

Maybe need 20-30 years haha? :p3
The old world people see time differently from us Singaporean rat-racers.

Btw looks like they are bringing back the Musar tasting.
Will the exam birds be done by then?

But this Sat is the Wine Restaurant Experience (WRX) Wine Journey as well, albeit nearby at Grand Copthorne.

Btw good deal here: 2002 Elderton Command Shiraz - 72 bucks at Hermitage.

Also, have you guys tried this white wine from Eastern Europe, Grüner?

haven't had much experience with the reds but i have tasted some of their popular red varietals like zweigelt, rotgipfler, pinot blanc, blaufrankisch sankt laurent over the past few years.

i believe thelocalnose.com this week featured a range of whites from the germanic regions including some gruner.

my overall impression is that their gruner veltliner is still the star of their wine market and the best are made for long aging as well.

speaking of champagne, i just bought a bottle of Zenato Laguna DOC Brut Spumante bubble at 35 bucks from ponti, as they are having bubble promotion. think no harm to get a 35 bucks bubble, cant be tt bad .. anyone tried this b4? cos i have zero knowledge for Italian bubble...

Never had this producer before but from the site they make a sparkling wine using the ‘metodo classico’ which is the same method they do with champagne (secondary fermentation in bottle).

They are located in the Veneto region which also makes DOC Prosecco in general but this one is made from 100% Trebbiano di Lugana. It should be quite nice and refreshing and dry with at most a touch of residual sugars.

Just chill it and enjoy it!

It was a tough one but I'm glad it's over. Have not been drinking for the past 2 weeks so it's time to back on track.
