haha...this year cannot be in acquisition mode, saving for ring and housing haha...will try to deplete what i can

That's nice. Just wondering with your passion for wine how the banquet will be like - will be good to get corkage waived and have different bottles for every table!

it would most likely be free corkage dinner.

my boss's wedding dinner last year was free corkage so that was great. but majority will still not bring their own wine.

wanna ask you all..

Have u ever had any wine u really dont like. Like a total disaster.

For me no, not yet.

Hm... for me I recalled I opened some wines that keep at home for many years inside cabinet under normal ~30'C temp. So hard to drink I have to spit the wine and pour the rest down the sink. (Since then I would always advise people not to keep too long of their wines under hot temperature. My gut feeling is better to drink up within 3 years.)

But those are oxidize and fault wines. Other than that I don't have any wines I really don't like. I had some cheap supermarket wines before, some have unpleasant taste of burnt rubber and some drink like cough syrup. But I still manage to finish the whole bottle. Because no one help me :s34:

Love a good steak, whether at a restaurant or sizzling it up at home on a griddle pan, or better, BBQ.

I usually like Cabernets (New World) or Bordeaux/Rioja/Rhones/Rosso Montalcinos (Old World) to go along with steaks. But many Cabernets on store shelves may need some time to tame, though I've found Californian Cabernets to be quite approachable.

I don't take beef and seldom take lamb actually. Nevertheless in many occasions I enjoyed Lamb rack/chop with rich and full bodied Aussie Shiraz. My favourite affordable Shiraz are Majella, Glaetzer The Bishop, Schild Estate, Magpie Estate The Sack or The Election, Heartland Directors' Cut, Two Hands Angels Share, Maxwell Ellen Street.... wow so many and all bought below $50 in the past ;)

My cousin got me the Inniskillin from DFS, its $98 if anyone wants to know. Now I've got a problem, where do I store it till the 20th?? The fridge is too cold and dry right? Can I put it in a dark corner of the wardrobe or under the stairs?

stick it in your fridge it's fine. you're not keeping it for years only just over a week. Fridge is no problem at all; don't worry.

speaking of Aussie shiraz, i was told by a sales staff at wine connection last wkend, and he recommended me Barwick Estate Shiraz Cab 2007 for $40 (if i remember correctly)... and he said tt Barwick's Shiraz is pretty good and worth buying ... but, i didnt lay my hand on it cos, i had 3 bottles with me, and dun want to add weight to my train ride home.

Hey guys, as full disclose, I have an agenda and ulterior motive for writing this post: Muscadet.

Not moscato, not muscat grape, but Muscadet wine from the Loire Valley. Terribly difficult to find in SG due to it being rather under the radar here. I’ve only seen a very very light sprinkling of it in some places and one bottling of it in Marks & Spencers.

Muscadet is made from Melon de Bourgogne grapes (more details here: Muscadet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and is famous for being the perfect pairing with oysters and other shellfish and seafood.

I managed to find a good but small distributorship in SG bringing top quality muscadet wines (among other small producers from other regions). I am trying to psycho all of you to agree with me that muscadet wines are worth exploring because they are a small distributorship and can only sell to private clients (like us) in full cases of 12 bottles, of which I have neither the space nor loose cash. I spent the morning negotiating to bring that number down but I respect his business decisions to keep it fair to all his other long time clients. The wines are not expensive and still considered undervalued at high $30s to high $40s from top producers.

You can read up more from their site: Loire

Plus one of my fave wine blogs Winedoctor: independent wine opinion, the owner is passionate about loire and has good coverage about muscadet: Winedoctor Search: muscadet

So do take a look at their stocks and see if we can make a case so we can all enjoy some muscadet with our seafood. Low stock indicates that they have to sell those items in sets of 3. I intend on buying 3 muscadet wines and I hope others can join in so we can make 12 bottles. If you are not keen on muscadet, I can request for a full wine list from him and you can choose from other regions as well. Let me know.

I intend on getting:
05 DOMAINE PIERRE LUNEAU-PAPIN Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie Le L d'Or (low stock)
09 DOMAINE PIERRE LUNEAU-PAPIN Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie Le L d'Or
04 DOMAINE LA PÉPIÈRE Clos Cormerais vinifié en fûts (low stock)

For the low stock items, I hope 2 others can join me so we can make the 3 bottle set for low stock purchases.

Let me know guys.

I have no experience with wines from wine connection as I never buy wines from them. I did a check and here is the description on Barwick estate fr JH:

The production gives some guide to the size of the three estate vineyards. The first is the Dwalganup Vineyard in the Blackwood Valley region; the second is St John's Brook Vineyard in Margaret River; and the third is the Treenbrook Vineyard in Pemberton. Taken together, the three holdings place Barwick in the top 10 wine producers in WA. The wines are released under four labels, The Collectables at the top from small parcels of estate-grown grapes. Exports to the UK, the US and other major markets.

The 2007 Barwick Estate Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon you mentioned, from Margaret River scored 90 fr JH. A well-made medium-bodied wine, with a lively mix of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit plus a dusting of spice and black pepper. ALC 14%, AUD 19.95.

Anyway just take wine critic's opinion as a pinch of salt. You have to try it to access yourself.

Writing of this I am enjoying a Penfolds bin 28 Shiraz 2006. Rich flavours and solid mid-palate good for steak/lamb. I have 2 more bottles that bought from bottles x2 last year for ~$40 and I consider that is a very good bargain too.

I can add one bottle, of your recommendation. Whites, with the exception of rieslings, don't move as fast as reds in my household..
