Just a regular wine serving temp is fine. No need too cold. Sip your port slowly and enjoy.

Happy lunar new year guys! What is your CNY tipple of choice durin this period?

Gong Xi Fa Cai to everyone!
I had these for my reunion lunch & dinner:
- 97 Château Dassault Le "D" (St Emilion)
- 08 Schloss Schönborn Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Kabinett

Also treated myself to an 04 Il Molino di Grace Chianti Classico after finishing the clean-up madness.

All pretty nice, approachable stuff, but with sufficient finesse to represent their regions well.

Btw reign if you're unable to get the Donnhoff at Tott I bought extra previously..

Gong Xi Fa Cai folks!!

I just came across this Groupon deal for wine tasting at World Wine Vault at $17 (but dunno what are the wines to be featured).
http://www.groupon.sg/deals/deals-near-me/world-wine-vault/715952996?nlp=&CID=SG_CRM_1_0_0_25&a=715827986

interestingly, when i browsed thru the Wordl Wine Vault website, i found this wines pairing with local food like wanton noodle, rojak, laksa etc
http://www.worldwinevault.com/wine_knowledge, which i think it pretty interesting to read. just for sharing ...

Hi ikileo, I was thinking of giving a pair of ice wines for my gf's dad. Because he loves to drink ice wine recently. However, I have no idea on the which ice wine is better or not. My budget around $120 to $150 for 2 ice wines. Will be great if they come with wooden box. I think it will be nicer to give as a gift too...

the traditional brands of good ice wine would typically go higher than your budget for 2 bottles and there are only one or two brand that come in a box (most, if not all, don't)

even the german eiswein would cost a lot.

i half suspect your dad just likes the sweetness of the wines, so there are other options for sweet wines that won't break the bank but are still good.

you can impress him with a pair of aged dessert style wines. 2 bottles of 1996 Chateau de Fesles Bonnezeaux from Carrefour (Suntec & Plaza Sing - but you must look hard). It's about $70 a bottle but has evolved very nicely in the bottle to not only give sweetness but lots of complexity as well.

no box but you can say you managed to secure a pair of aged wine and aged wine always makes people happy. chill it slightly (not ice cold) and enjoy it over several hours because it will continue to evolve.

while the packaging is nice, the wines are generic and decent at best. they are entry level wines.

they are not sweet wines though, so are you looking to get other wines outside of sweet wines?

Guys I'm also new to wine. Any wine that is good for a starter? Thanks a lot :D

Hi SoggyBear, welcome to the wine thread!

you can start pretty much anywhere you want depending on your budget haha...

what wines have you drunk so far and what wines do you like so far? This info can help see which style/region of wines you can start off with.

do join us when we have our wine thread get together sessions (usually once a month or once every 2 months), it is a great way to know other peeps here and share good wines with each other.

i would recommend you a white german riesling:

2008 Fritz Haag Riesling - $38 from 1855 Bottle Shop (Orchard Triple One)

2010 Donnhoff Riesling - $30 (if still on promo) if not then $30+ from ToTT, along Dunearn Road, opposite Methodist Girl's School.

they are very good entry level rieslings that wont break your bank from top producers in germany. Chill them slightly and let them breathe for a while before drinking (about an hour). they are done in an off dry style so there is a slight amount of sweetness.

delicious, good wines that are affordable.

Just read through the thread...

Nice info sharing here. Would love to join in the gatherings in future :)

Any idea where I could get a wide selection of half bottles as I can't finish one on my own? Haha

Hi Kimozz, great to have you here! wow how long did you take to get through so many pages?

Enoteca at the Takashimaya B1 level, beyond the food court in the deepest part of the basement carries a healthy and moderately price selection of half bottles.

i know the feeling of trying finish one full bottle by my lonesome self.

what wines or producers do you like?
