I'm ok with the date, so we going with the new varietal/region plan? I'm cool with that.

Next we can decide on the menu - you can even bring KFC too if you want!

are you keen to join us for our wine session on the 25th May?

totally agreed with ikileo, that's y i just picked up 1 Art Series and a bottle of white from a japan (ie Grace - Koshu 2010). only those selected few bottles have 30% discount, the rest are only at 18%. No much good buy ...

i know it may seem like i am using you guys to hit my MOQ for those stubborn 'by the case purchases', which is true, but i also wanna share some lobangs...

This is from the emailer from Epiphany Wines.

Fontodi Case Via Syrah IGT 2001, Tuscany Price S$79.00 (original packaging 6 x 750ml)
A lovely dark hue here. The nose carries plenty of primary black fruit character, with a ripe, toffee edge, perhaps oak derived. On the palate this is ripe and creamily textured, with a gentle structure. Still very primary and rather simple at present, but there is no lack of potential here too. Another surprise, this time very good Tuscan Syrah!
5/5 Stars Decanter
90 points Robert Parker
91 points Wine Spectator

https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=182935

**ETA latest mid-June 2012 by air-freight.

Ever since I had my first tuscany syrah in Italy (Isole e Olena Syrah) i was mesmerized by the quality that top producers in Tuscany can make. Fontodi is one of the 'up there' tuscan produers especially for it's chiantis (sold in Culina but expensive) and their famous Flaccianello 100% Sangiovese which goes for quite a bit of cash. this syrah looks to be in/near it's peak drink period and should provide lots of pleasure. Please take note let this stand for a day for the sediment to settle and decant the sediment out.

My friend and I are taking 2 bottles each so we need another one or two or you (or your friends) to take the remaining 2 bottles to make the 6 bottle minimum :(

I did a quick check on wine-searcher, prices in US for this 2001 vintage range from SGD$40 - $70 (excluding tax and shipping) so I think this is a pretty good deal.

if anyone is interested, just let me know within the next few days :)

from the email, there were other deals, but all have a 6 bottle min.

La Reserve de Leoville Barton 2003, St-Julien | Price S$71.00|(original packaging 12 x 750ml)

Chateau Rauzan Segla 1999, Margaux | Price S$138.00 | (original packaging 12 x 750ml)

Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 2001, Pessac Leognan | Price S$124.00 | (original packaging 12 x 750ml)

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2001, St-Julien | Price S$166.00 | (original packaging 12 x 750ml)

Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino 2001, Tuscany | Price S$124.00 | (original packaging 6 x 750ml)

Terms & Conditions:
**Minimum purchase 6 bottles of the same label.
**Free delivery included with every 12 bottles purchase.
**Prices quoted in Singapore dollars and Nett. GST absorbed by Epiphany Wines.
**ETA latest mid-June 2012 by air-freight.
**Upon confirmation, payment by cash/cheque or bank transfer immediately. No cancellation is allowed.

if you want the contact can let me know. in the meantime: anyone wanna join the Syrah MOQ? pwetty please????

i am in no way related or affiliated to Epiphany Wines and neither am I taking a cut from their profit. I just met the owner at a tasting session earlier this month and I asked her if I could join her list.

The theme I mentioned before, it's wine varietals/regions you have never had before. So u got to take the extra effort to hunt down some unfamiliar wines.

Budget is $40 to $100. Food let hkm recommend at the area lah.

Ok so far

Hi all,

May 25 is ok with me.. Potluck is good too! Will probably buy a chicken from CS.. Does that count?

Only concern is the theme: something i have never heard of or tried before.. China/ Thailand/ Vietnam wine, anyone? :)

hey stayhappy21, we can settle the food closer to the event.

the wine can be anything, as long as it's a varietal/region you've never had before.

the wines will be served blind so no need to tell us where it's from. on the day itself just make sure the bottle is covered up and opened beforehand so that it can breathe before serving. i wrap mine in foil.

the $40 - $100 price point still remains as a minimum standard to minimize any sub-par/entry level wine etc...

are you bringing a +1 or just yourself?

on a separate note, the Fontodi Syrah MOQ has been met! Thanks! you know your who are ;) will update you.

btw...email was just sent less than 2hours ago.

Wine Exchange Asia has another bordeaux clearance sale. but minimum will be one case purchase (12 bottles) as the collector had preferred that.

they will consolidate single bottle orders at the end of the sale. i am not bothering with this one. there are enough rich fogeys who will fork out the $$ for a case 12 same wines.

yeah, but for me, i like bdx, but it's not my fave region, so right now i'm not feeling any impetus to place an order. will look out out for others.

Opened the Cheo Minges weigut, Gleisweiler Holle Spatlese 2009, last night when having supper. It came with the smell of apricot, and honey, strangely, when the wine first touched my tongue, it was a bit sour. But after a while , it ok. Had it with Indian Tulang, as was expecting it to be spicy and turnout the tulang was mild Sweet. Overall throughly enjoyed it and sadly it was consumed very fast. haiz>>:D

Also brought the askbrook 2007, Carbernet merlot, Super high on the acl.14% crazy!, the acl hit you when the wine entered the mouth, decided to let it breath and consume it for tonight's dinner.

hey wahsmlj,

there are many resources online regarding wine.
The first few posts on this thread I have written a bit on the wine basics. but there are a lot else out there to find out.

there's a whole bunch on youtube as well.

although this is an old video, most of it is still very applicable today - there are u to 7 or 8 episode i think. u can do a quick search.

Wine Spectator has videos: WineSpectatorVideo - YouTube

Winelibrary ran a very popular 1000 webisode series that is worth watching

websites like http://www.wineanorak.com/newbie.htm/ and Winedoctor: independent wine opinion are great as well. and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

i like going to Kinokuniya and reading (and sometimes buying) the decanter magazine each month. it's pretty good.

Interesting theme and should be full of surprises. Glad to see the regulars are in but also like to meet some new friends.

Btw I don't really know the area well. Sometimes I pack some BBQ pork and siew bak from coffee shop nearby Kallang Mrt but many times the food are settled by other friends who drive.

We can discuss what food we will be bringing later once we firm up the numbers. Alternative we can have some people buy the food first then we share the cost too.
