Drinking a 2000 Elderton Cabernet Sauvignon Ashmead Single Vineyard that bought from WEA from their recent Australian wine investor sales. It is drinking amazingly well now, soft & smooth, with blackcurrant, spice and eucalyptus. A truly great bargain at $32 and I reckon normal retail price in Singapore not less than $100 as the recent release price at AU$80-$90 back in Australia...

I have not tried the top-end Hermitage wines but so far my several experiences with Crozes Hermitage (Dauvergne Ranvier, Ferraton) and St Joseph (J Boutin) has been mixed, so I'm not so sure if I really like the Old World style. The exception is the Alain Graillot Crozes, which I thought was really good, but not sure if this is typical of the style. Having said that, I tried the basic/second wine of d'Alessandro and thought it quite good for the price.

Yup the Elderton Cabernet looks a good deal, I think I missed out :(

Btw I tried a Fiano today at a newly opened pizza place, pretty nice, aromatic and intense.

Well we will find out tmr, try to decant and chill your wines if possible, cos a warm Shiraz can get a bit hairy at times. If not we may need a cooler box with ice just to keep it fresh

Yeah not necessary to start with a white and 7 reds are just nice for 10 pax.

I will briefly decant my red and keep inside the fridge for a while before I tuck inside the cooler bag and bring for the tasting. I think that is a good practice.

What about the time? Shall we start fr 6, 6:30 or 7pm?

I am good with 6.30, I think it is good to start early and as long as we have a few that can make it at that time, the rest can just join in later. But don't come at 8 hor!

I agree with starting at 6.30 pm. Start early and we can have a longer time to digest the wines.

Cheers!

Oh really I didn't watch that video... Perhaps that's the reason the investor is forced to sell so cheap and perhaps Robert slash the buying price based on his tasting that the wine has passed its prime. Anyway the wines were selling out very fast... (60 bottles) and many like me willing to take a risk for the price. Now it proved that investor's loss is our gain

I think the wine is drinking very nice and i enjoyed it very much now although it's true that it cannot hold long.

with bottle variation, you never know...some bottles will invariably taste better than others.

Well that is an interesting fact and that's why I bought 2 bottles :s22:

Besides that I also have experience that I opened an expensive bottle at home and found it very disappointed but another occasion where I had the same wine in a restaurant with a group of wine kakis and other good wines, the wines was fantastic and everyone liked the the wine. So the environment (serving temperature & breathing method), who you drink with and maybe even with food or without food also play a part...
So now I am a little hesitate to open a good wine to drink alone at home :( and rather drink those daily drinking wine. That said, sometimes I can still have pleasant surprise too ;) (like the 2000 Elderton Ashmead)

Btw 6:30pm is a good timing and see you guys tomorrow!
