I aleays say Taste and see first loh.

If u got a lot of time and when u taste it sti hasn't fully opened yet, then u can slow ox. If u need something a little quicker like a couple of hours then decant.

Personally for me I double decant when I need to brin the bottle to somewhere else. If not I just leave it in the decanter

thanks man!

hey sorry i missed your post.

eh...i'm not organizing anything this week as i'm like super mega busy at work this week. but i dunno if the others are having any chill out session.

probably will rest and recharge over the weekend.

but do keep a look out for our year end event. we are still finalizing the details but the theme would be something along the lines of "Bring A GOOD Bottle". we want to end the year with a bunch of delicious wine but at the same time i hope it doesn't intimidate people who might want to join us. (they scared they dunno if their bottle is 'good')

Anyone can conduct Wine Appreciation at my home?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for anybody who can conduct a Wine Appreciation Session at my home.

I am looking at a 2hr session probably. I do not have wine, so wine has to be provided by the person conducting the session. I can provide the food. However, if the person can provide food that will pair with the wine, I am willing to pay accordingly.

Looking at a minimum of 2 pax and a maximum of 10 pax. Conducted on 28 December 2012.

Does anybody know anyone? Or have any contact? I would so so so appreciate if you could recommend me or give me a contact. Thank you so much!

Hi Theresthy,

Do you have a theme or type of wines in mind for this session?
Like maybe Bordeaux wines, or wines from a certain region or country, eg. Alsace, Spain, Chile, Italy etc.?

I think there's a few ways you can go about this. You may like to engage a professional wine speaker from the various local wine personalities, like Ch'ng Poh Tiong, Lim Hwee Peng, Edwin Soon, Sarah Mayo etc. who have a broad knowledge of wine as well as much experience of the local market.

Or if there's a particular distributor/retailer who carries wines you like, or that fit your theme, you can check with them. Many of them do conduct such sessions for corporate functions or local interest groups as part of services.

Just went to Wine fiesta yesterday.

Overall, had a great time.

Some of the wines that left a great impression on me because I never tried such wines before.

1) Rubis Chocolate Wine
Welcome to RUBIS WINE

Basically the wine caught my attention because of the flavour. When I first smell the wine, it didn't had that very chocolate aroma. But after tasting it, and smelling it again, suddenly I got the full aroma of the wine.

2) 2 Japan wines by Grace Winery
One was Koshu 2010 and the other was Kai Noir 2010

The Koshu resembled a a Sauvignon Blanc. It was rather delicate and not too acidic. While the Kai Noir resembled a Pinot Noir. Very light bodied wine with a very low amount of tannin.

Never tried Japanese wine before and was rather surprised with what I tasted.

Cheers:)

I went!

Ok, I went both this year and the previous one. Didn't quite like it.

1. Venue: Granted, it is in town, and on weekends Shenton Way is deserted, so pretty much ideal. But after walking around a bit and tasting a fair bit of wine does make one a little warm, add to the fact it's opened air, plus it's been raining the whole weekend didn't help at all.. A number of the guests came in wet and drenched, and the hotness and wetness is a little off putting.. (A number of the exhibitors were sweating as they were pouring.. Why can't they put in in an air-conditioned ball room, or something..)

2. Lack of seats and resting places: With over 50 booths and an average of 5 wines per booth, there is a lot of tasting going on.. During the late evening there are a lot of people walking/ squeezing/ pushing around, and there simply ain't enough seats or resting places..

3. Wine: The wines were simply not outstanding.. Granted the range and variety was stunning, with over 150 wines, but 75% of them were either Chardonnays, Sau Blancs, Merlots, Shirazs, and Cab Sauvs. A few surprises were the wines from UK, Japan and Croatia. The rest of the exhibitors were the regulars from the previous years. And yes, this being a Straits Wines event meant that they are all ST wines. Quality was very much average at best.

Pretty much what Stayhappy21 said.

I totally agree with that. The crowd wasn't that bad at 3 to 4+, got really crazy like after 6....

And some exhibitors were, pretty restless after some time, can see it on their face, probably due to the stuffy air.

I think it's Le Benaton, unless there are other wine shops at the old Turf City.
They've shifted - just a couple of steps - from their old Bkt Timah shop near Coronation Plaza.

probably due to cheaper rent. but 1-2 months back, the row of shops in Turf City were still under construction. so now they're ok?

Yup, I tried a gelatia there (latte e miele - so-so only) and am also told that the ever popular Valentino Ristorante has shifted into much bigger premises in the same compound. Oh, and there's a Jack's Place located here too. Plus Vegan Burg and a host of others.

Lookey here: The Grandstand : Business as Usual
