sigh so sad. this weekend i have other commitments cannot go for the various events.

last night opened up the Fino Sherry. nice and interesting. had some overlapping notes and textures with sake. now i can see why people like to eat this with nuts and olives. would go well with sushi/sashimi as well

Oh ic... hmmm.... I wonder why the pricing was not stated in the local nose's wine events page. Anyway I will write to them to find out.

Hi HKM,

Please share the findings if they write back to you.. Think I would like to go for this one too..

Thanks!

this is fate...i just read the latest Gourmet magazine and they listed out different wines for the festive season.

one of the entry level sparklers they recommended was the Jaillance as well. For those who will be entertaining over the festive period or have gatherings, this is a very wallet friendly option.

if u need champagnes for your festive season but don't want to break the bank, check out these champers.

i've had both the Pierre Paillard Brut Rose & Brut Grand Cru before and both were really nice, punching above their price point. IMO I enjoyed the Rose more.

haven't tried the Legras before but looks good on paper.

you can just buy one bottle, as long as you can pop by their office to pay and collect; which i usually do.

A good grower champagne producer.
The Pierre Paillard style is born from our winemaker's heritage.

Yes I'm interested in the Wine Treasure Hunt too. Now having a buy two get one free promotion, if any of you want to buy together.

Ok for the Wines To End The Year With dinner, how do the Saturdays 8 or 15 December sound to you? Gotta save the dates!

Ok, just realised early to mid December is bad for me: can't do 1,2,8,9,15 or 16 December..

If the above dates are good for the rest, please go ahead without me.. :(

Eh like how late? Like our friend mentioned, Spizzico at UE Square closes at 1030pm, while I know Prive Group restaurants like Roadhouse (Dempsey) has free corkage Mon-Thu, and University Club (NUS) has free corkage for first three bottles. Both close at 11pm. There are a few other nice restaurants with free corkage on certain weekdays too.

thanks! any places with closing time at 12mn?

Sorry guys, jus saw ur message .. I must say tt the range of Bordeaux reds featured was pretty good. But there are too young n tannin, and tt required lotsa imagination to guess how they are going to be like in 8-10 yrs time... I m too inexperienced for tt dept. but good experience to taste so many Bordeaux labels at one to!! Plus we got a copy of huge 108 Chinese food wine pairing as door gift, good deal indeed.

overall guys, how was the event?

For me, rather mixed feelings regarding the event..

Liked the location: in town, pool view, air-conditioned, excellent service, comfortable guest to server ratio, nice seats to rest on etc.. I also liked the way the wines are layed out and lined up: it was according to the regions they are from: Graves, Pomerol, Pauilliac, etc, and each region was represented by a handful of wines..

Dislikes: I'll probably amaze myself for saying this, but the wines were a little disappointing. There were 26 reds, 2 whites and 2 sweets from Sauternes. All from the mystical vintage 2009. Drinking such a young vintage and so many of them at one go does make very little sense as the wines would not have opened up significantly yet to marked differences. Or perhaps my tongue wasn't that sensitive to the wines. After a while most of the wines (as highlighted by MuthuCurry) were hiding behind a wall of tannin, and tasted more similar than not. Only the Talbot, Lynch-Bages and Pichon Baron stood out among the rest for me. (But i can certainly see HKM having a good time.. :)

On another unrelated note, the tit-for-tat between the 2 wine retailers continues..

i have the same thought as stayhappy tt these wines are way too young to be appreciated. cant remember most of the bottles tt i tried, as they are all pretty similar (ie typical bordeaux nose and tannin/tight), except for P. Baron, Beychevelle and one of the dessert wine.
