the organizers of last year's ULTIMATE PARKER.

i like their selection of wines, but i find some of the staff a bit snooty. maybe they are only used to serving the bankers working in MBFC that they don't care about less well dressed customers.

plus i was quite turned off by the way they market their products and their mailers. everything is via parker scores, and they love to extol and exalt the virtues of parker. i have nothing against the man, i just find his followers annoying.

apparently the guy no longer works at Hermitage and this is his business.

according to the article "‘The deal was brokered by two people who have absolutely no interest in wine and only commercial interest in mind,’ the email says."

my goodness, do we need more money hungry investors to pull their marketing and business schemes on wine consumers in the region? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz................

Yeah, they messed up some of my orders during a recent sale, and when I tried emailing more orders to them, nobody responded! Forget it then. Dunno if it's due to change in management or what, cos yes, I read somewhere that the guy sold off the business to his partners (who are from the region).

Oh well what do you say, for us wine is an enjoyable past-time that need not be excessively expensive nor snooty, but the perception at large is still that this is one of those atas luxury things that only people with overflowing pockets indulge in. I mean, when you look at the crowds that attend the typical tastings you will know what I'm talking about. And when these peeps flash the cash, you can be sure the money men's eyes will light up. Just to join you in your rant :)

a lot of them are just middle aged doctors, lawyers and bankers that go for the tastings and charge $10,000 to their card without breaking a sweat.

nothing against the consumers, they got money then good loh. but it's the customer profiling from the retailers that turn me off.

U can get cloudy bay pretty much anywhere. Cold storage has them. 1855 wine shop has them. Bottles and bottles.

Usually around 50-60+ IIRC

I heard it's good, saw it listed at 100+ at a restaurant the other day, where do you recommend to get good wines, in Singapore of course.

it kinda depends what u like. u can get a wide range from wines from many wine stores nowadays. and supermarkets offer some good deals if u know which producers to get.

do u enjoy a particular type of wine?

I prefer fruity and easy to drink kind of wine, never really paid attention to branding etc, planning to get serious about it, saw this cloudy bay listed at 100+ at a restaurant guess it's good to try

thank you for the info, bottlesx2 is only at vivo?

Bottlesx2 have retails outlet at few other places like Tampines1, Parkway Parade, Tudor Court and Suntec City too.

If you like fruity stuff like Sauvignon Blanc, you can try other good supermarket brand like Kim Crawford or The Crossings which you can find from Fairprice or CS at around $30 with promotion.

In my opinion not necessary to start with the popular & branded Cloudy Bay.

I like Chardonnay and Leeuwin Art Series is one of my favourite! Bright golden yellow, fresh and expressive nose of pear, pineapple, tropical fruits and quite a strong toasty, buttery oak. Full on the palate and yet has good freshness, with ripe pear and a hints of mineral. It has strong oak influence but it was very well integrated. End with a nice and lingering finish too.
