Hi, are South African wines good?

yes they are, but as with all wine producing countries, where till always be the good and the bad ones. it's good to know which are the better producers from SA, within your budget of course.

for everyday reds that is affordable and easily available in supermarkets (cold storage) is Stellenzicht. their reds are pretty good.

currently are there any SA wines that you enjoy?

Hey Guys!

Shall we try to do something a little more ambitious this year?

We've been planning for the next event every time we had the last event.

Eh, the themes all sound good but planning one already takes a bit of work, so I can't imagine for six!

Not sure if the others can commit to the schedule haha.. guys all commitment-phobic one.

Think we have the themes you suggested on our mental list then just choose one the next time we can arrange something. If a big gathering not doable can always do a smaller one.

Had 2008 Paracombe Riesling Holland Creek (Adelaide Hills) yesterday. Thought it was really good - good balance between dry/off-dry with chalky and lime notes. Really savoury, good acidity and finish. Nice for <$30.

Haha caught my eye too. I'm in - if we can get 5 that'll be great haha!

Got the Paracombe at Ponti. I think it was on even cheaper discount recently.

Happy to find a fellow food geek, who also remembers Bourdain's trip to Sardinia!

Hopefully there will be good masterclasses & exhibitors.
Not much info yet, I only know Intervino will be there.

Now that's a real foodie man...
At the risk of sounding like a nut, it's all about having a 'relationship' with your food.

Back to basics seems to make so much more sense than in our urbane rat race...

I've been trying to grow lots of basil in my hdb (I like pesto-on-demand), my they really are prolific. But rosemary, thyme and parsley not doing too well.

To me all this just goes hand-in-hand with enjoying wine - it's enjoying nature.

basil grows pretty well around here, more temperate climate plants will be a tad difficult.

although i have a garden, i have far too many birds and not enough time to ensure they grow well.

Pet birds or trespassers?

Share this local wine article:
A mixed blessing for wine-lovers
It was a year of overdue market correction. NK YONG looks at what this trend means for the consumer and the buying strategy for 2013

trespassers naturally.

nice article. i have met Dr Yong on a couple of occasions and his wife. One of my very good friend's aunt, is Dr Yong's wife. lots of wine bottles all over the house. she is a terrific cook, having trained at Cordon Bleu in france. they know all the wine people around the world and it's crazy when the top chateau owners visit SG, they will buddy buddy and pay Yong and his wife a visit. she will host a dinner etc... i know she even was a guest chef at some of the chateau's kitchens as well...

but they are very humble and down to earth; which is good :)

I think it's very good to have real wine ambassadors like this, to put Singapore on the wine map in a good way.

I believe this is his distribution co. - list of excellent producers at pretty okay prices.
