I think it's very good to have real wine ambassadors like this, to put Singapore on the wine map in a good way.

I believe this is his distribution co. - list of excellent producers at pretty okay prices.

Gironwine.com

Dun forget the Wine Advocate will be based in Singapore in the very near future, so that certainly places us on the World Wine Map!

Heh, that's why I emphasised 'in a good way'.
From what I'm reading on the forums, the American market sees the WA buy as a selling out waiting to happen. To a place of the noveau riche, not unlike China and Russia.

Of course, maybe they do think we're in China.

Agreed. Many in the West still think Singapore is part of China.

Speaking of China, I just came back from China this week. Went for a 'wine education' tour on my own.. The results were shocking in every way..

Will share more the next time we meet up for our wine sessions..

Speaking of our wine sessions.. When's the next one? Shall we decide on the theme first so that we can prepare the most important thing: the Wine.. :)

Gironwine brings the an Adelaide Hills riesling made by Egon Muller!

i am planning a trip to UK with the girlfriend in April/May period.
One of the place i want to visit are the areas that grow British sparkling wine.

i have heard many good things about it, plus i drank a pretty good '02 british blanc de blancs last year

Nice! Emirates had a tempting offer recently (ends today) on their flights.

Think you really should make a trip to The Fat Duck! And the Hind's Head while you're at it. The Fat Duck, United Kingdom (***) | Food In Singapore and the Rest of the World

Btw have you watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi? It was super.

Well if anyone wants to pool an order (min 6 btls, mixed) from Giron, I'm in :)

Theme:
Wines to go with Nonya food? or Value Reds (<$50): France vs Italy vs Spain

Happy:
From your skimpy decription, doesn't sound like there's much positive to say about the tour?
Btw so did you get us a Jiabeilan to try?

thanks...depending on the type of yu sheng u make, if it's quite acidic already from the limes etc then u don't really need a high acid wine.

try the every reliable riesling or i would think a fresh clean rose would work well or a white rhone wine with it's heavier body.

There's nothing much positive to say.. I was quite stunned when conversing with the locals and wine merchants during the trip..
And yes, the jie bai na and the chi xia zhu are the most common seen 'grape' labels in the market.. And nobody realised that it's the same thing!

Am fine with the food and food choice (Peramakan severs excellent nonya food..)

How about the choice of wine? Free for us to decide what goes well with nonya food? Or limit the choice to colours or regions or grapes?

The place is quite far & inconvenient for me.... Looi can provide shuttle bus again?

Hm... let's start planning for the date then...

Grand Vin launched out another offer for Alsatian producer Domaine Schlumberger!

on a side note, looiwte and my friend and I met up for a casual post dinner tipple and snack at 1855 Triple One.

Had a 2008 Moss Wood Pinot Noir from Mornington Peninsula; one of the prominent pinot growing areas in aussie. very nice classic new world pinot style but had a nice balance and restraint. sweet cherries, smoke, a hint of chocolate, tobacco and tea. long finish.

Looiwte brought a delicious NZ blue cheese, a stilton, brie and pistachios. the food and wine went down 'very' quickly and we had a fun (or deep) conversation lasting us from about 9.30 up until 2am haha...

Before the hustle and buzz of cny kick in, shall we settle for a date for the Nonya food + wine thingy?

How about early March?
