Was browsing the web and came across this site:

When to drink ? - StatWine

For people always debating whether it is too young or too old to open your bottle of Bordeaux, this is a very useful too.. Of course, the individual chateau and storage conditions play a part too, but nevertheless useful in providing a generic framework on when is the 'ideal' time to open your bordeauxs..

Another article which i thought is useful for wine lovers in Singapore.. Since space is always a premium at home and the local weather doesn't really permit the storing of wines in the cupboards or store rooms, these are perhaps useful for people with good wines that should be ideally drank a few years down the road but resistant to the purchase of wine fridges at home:

Anyone knows where to get Vacu Vin Wine Saver with vacuum cocks? Estimated price?

Robinson's has them. I thought it was $20+ but someone posted before that it's slightly pricier. Shops like Tott, Sia Huat and even Fairprice Finest have similar apparatus under different brands.

Seems like, however, the popular wine preservation solution these days is the argon in a can type, judging by the number of different manufacturers on the market.

or if u want chinese with peking duck and the works, we can go to the NUSS guild house at Kent Ridge chinese restaurant. but it's $15 corkage per bottle.

Let me know what you think.

It is a Friday dinner ;) so perhaps we can consider their set dinner ...

Guess we have to go super peking duck or Jade Palace for good food and free corkage. Any other idea?

You can write the WEA and check out their storage services. The last time i did that the person in charge informed me that their storage is full at the moment and additional storage spaces will be reserved for their existing customers only.

12 Deg's handling fee is lower than WEA.. But the turnover rate of staff is a concern (to me personally) as you are handling over your prized possession to a virtually unknown stranger..

But both are good if you are looking to store small quantities of wine (less than 4 cases) that has not reached the optimum drinking period yet.

my 6 bottles of champagne arrived yesterday.

3 X 08 Pierre Paillard Blanc de Blancs Acte 1
3 X 08 Pierre Paillard Blanc de Noirs Acte 1

this is the 2nd vintage off this special project by Pierre Paillard to create a 100% chard and 100% pinot noir champagne, respectively; that is not only vintaged by also of a single vineyard.

I have tried the 07 and even for an above average vintage, it was really delicious. the 08 is supposedly a better vintage and this can keep for quite many years.

You can find out more at their site. an interesting read.

What about Crystal Wine storage service? Is it good?

Fine Wine Storage | Crystal Wines

KS

I personally like the services provided by Crystal Wines.
Problem with their wine storage is with the minimum charges.

Minimum storage per month is $50, which works out to be around 14 to 15 cases. At those quantity one can rent a wine locker at Extra Storage.

The other problem is the handling fee. At $0.10 per bottle and minimum $10 per transaction, the minimum quantity for each deposit or withdrawal is 100 bottles.

If one has large quantities of wine and am trying to look for alternatives other than self storage, Crystal Wines is a good option. However, for wine lovers with a small collection and/ or requires frequent deposit/ withdrawal it might not be so ideal.
