Menu:

- Double Boiled Soup
- Peking Duck (obviously)
- Stir friend Peking Duck parts with garlic and chilli
- Poached Seasonal Vegetables
- Beef cubes with Garlic

Some interesting wines that night

a still blanc from Limoux (south of france, the region of sparkling wine). couldn't really pin what this was since i don't drink Mauzac blancs ever. Old world definitely and felt alsatian in terms of some flavours and textures. but really good!

very classic fresh gewurz with all the trimmings. florals, lychees, spiciness but it had a good zing and balance to it to keep the textured wine very elegant. people guessed the grape but didn't expect it to be non-alsatian. very good stuff!

a Syrah, Grenache & Alicante (a red skinned & a red flesh grape) blend from the south of france (edge of languedoc) in the Coteaux de Murviel sub-region. Tasted like a cool northern rhone style wine. impressive.

Syrah from Minervois in south of france. Riper in style than the SGA blend earlier but still done in a frenchy elegant style.

Overall very tasty and delicious wines for the evening along with the awesome food. the wines ranged from $30+ - $40+ and yet over-delivered.

Just wondering do u all prefer whisky or wine?

ummmm...this is a wine thread, so this kinda says something already. although i'm sure there are people who do enjoy whiskey.

but as for preference, i think most of us here in the wine thread prefer wine.
any reason for the questions? do u need a recommendation?

for the Francophiles out there, here is a very good importer/distributor with a good eye for the producers that they bring in: KOT Selections. France | KOT Selections

Their focus is French with a sprinkling of German and Italian wines. Their French selection is out of the usual Bordeaux and Burg focus but rather a Loire focus; an incredibly underrated region especially in the local wine scene. but the winos and wine nerds love the Loire due to it's high quality of wine (assuming you know who to buy from) and it's wide range of types spanning sparklings, whites, rose, reds and desserts.

For darlings of the Loire are Cabernet Franc (reds) and Chenin Blanc (whites); when done right they produce wines with finesse and true varietal character that's bang for the buck.

I'm a Loire-head and KOT Selections bring in many of the producers that I enjoy. Here is the link to their catalog:

http://www.kotselections.com/wp-con...talogue-Private-Clients-France-July-20131.pdf

The other regions of france that they cover are also very good but just with lesser number of producers on their portfolio; but very well selected nonetheless.

IMO, all their selections are spot on because they actually met, visited and tasted all their wines and wine makers before. they are mostly smaller producers but are very well known in the wino circles. it's just a matter of which wine style you prefer, but if you want to expand your palate beyond bordeaux blends and pinot noirs, the other regions of france offers a fascinating and rewarding experience.

i know this is not an MO thread but I hope the upstairs people can close one eye. to purchase from KOT selections as a private client you have to buy at least a case (12 bottles). It can be a mixed case so I'm hoping to share a case with some of those interested.

if you need any recommendations and help, let me know!
