Don't bother, it acts more like a raincoat/jacket. It doesn't really insulate you from the cold unless you're already wearing a thick jacket underneath.

Previously, we usually layered with inner (heattech), 2nd layer cotton or wool shirt, 3rd layer fleece, then an outer shell.
So this Blocktech Parka is useless as an outer shell?
I had doubted this is not going to be effective for Korea winter, but wife likes the
design and lightweight.

Given what the other guy said, bloktech is a shell for protection again wind and snow. You’re much better off layering a down jacket on top for the extra insulation in those temps.

I’m comfortable in baselayer, fleece and down to about 0, so an extra wool layer should help.

Edit: neither down nor fleece are great in super windy conditions so a shell might help.

I think blocktech will work fine for your purpose as an outershell. My friend wore it during our recent climb up an indonesian crater. There was very strong wind during the climb and it worked well for him.
Then again, do make sure you have good insulation layer underneath blocktech. Winter in korea feels colder.

May consider that.
But somehow feel funny, if buy there straightaway wear without wash, lol.
But if it's outershell, may be don't mind never wash. :)

Even if i buy in SG, esp if it is not a display piece, I don't wash it on the first wear cos it seems clean and also can save some money by not washing it :D.

Does anyone know of any second clothing shops in Seoul?
In Japan got 2nd hand clothing shop selling almost new winter wear.
The condition is as good as new and the pieces are so clean and smell of nice smelling detergent.
They are so cheap , I bought one piece for $10 =:p!

Saw Timberland having 50% sales (minimum 2 item) at Causeway Point. Bought a Timberland Mt. Crescent waterproof jacket at $199 (up $399).

Just go to big department stores like Lotte, Shinsegae, Hyundai and head to event hall, where you can find big discounted items of branded winter wears plus can claim gst on the way back home. Try Lotte Mart and e-mart also.

North Face brand is in every big department stores and their own outlets in shopping malls. When I was in Korea last Oct-Nov, they were having 10% off discounts iirc.
There are so many Korean own brands which are high quality, but you look for big sale items (from previous season).

Event halls are usually located on upper floors (look for the sign or ask at information).

eg. My wife bought Merrell 100% duck down long coat covers to above knee, reduced from 229000 won to 99000 won + 5000 won less gst on the spot from Lotte. She says very warm.

They have thrift shops eg Vin Prime and The Beautiful Store in Gangnam.
Although 2nd hand, the clothes are very new and very affordable.

cool thanks!

I think it depends on people :s13: I wear jeans without any heatech underneath with -7 to - 10 degrees temperature.

Mostly is your extremities that feel the cold the most, i.e. hands necks face feet.

Hence, make sure those are covered properly. If you do so and you are dry, the cold is not that scary.
