Was going to ask you about the FI8906W as I haven't seen this model (the OEM model).

Well, maybe there are some things they need to tweak on this new model.

Depends on which online shop u are talking about, so far, there's only 2-3
authorised resellers in Singapore for FOSCAM. We sell genuine FOSCAM cameras.
And main difference is the local warranty period that we cover. All FOSCAM
cameras comes with default 1 Year return to Factory Warranty (Buyer pays shipping)

There are a lot of fake FOSCAM out on the market, so please be ware, if you
have doubts if the cameras sold are real, please write in to foscam from their
website and check if the seller is in fact their authorised reseller, if not, if FOSCAM
does not valid your warranty, no one can help you on that.

Hope this answer your question.

Dear Dr_ARCHer,

We'll be setting up a demo unit once it is available. So far, nothing from the
manufacturer's end, we have already placed orders, but nothing from them
so far. We hope to test first and make sure it works before we release to the
public for sales.

Otherwise, the FI8918W (Pan/Tilt), FI8909W-NA (Fixed) are proven models on
the market for surveillance needs. For the retail price of $299, its a steal
considering it have IR & 3X ZOOM. We are as excited as everyone.

Will keep everyone updated once the camera is available for DEMO.

OK. The Foscam units are up for demo again over the weekend. Note that
our upload bandwidth is noted to dropped during night time, hence you
WILL experience laggy picture...

For Pan/Tilt (FI8918W), URL as below

http://fi8918w-demo.dyndns.org:8087/

Login with "demoops", password is "demo123",

For Fixed (FI8909W-NA), URL as below

http://fi8909w-demo.dyndns.org:8086/

Login with "demouser", password is "demo123",

We will remove the remote login for the demo accounts on Sunday Night.
The camera's movement and resolution is best with higher upload
bandwidth. Best on Fibre Plans!

You may download the following FREE iPhone Apps to view the camera

1. IPCAM Lite
2. CamViewer

Paid Version;

For Pan/Tilt Control Capability, our favourite will be LIVE CAMs, On iPAD, LIVE CAMs
HD.

For faster clearer resolution, it would be Cam Viewer (No control over Pan/Tilt)
- For Cam Viewer, you need to setup as Generic Camera and setup the URL
using /snapshot.cgi. Although the capture is in the form of motion jpeg, but its
good enough for those who wanted clear, fast image from FI8909W-NA.

Happy Testing!

It's been a while since I last hoot something. Without any other premium stuff, I thought I hoot one of my secret obsession: wireless IP camera with IR function and pan-and-tilt.

During my walkabout in SLS today, I came across two new wireless IP camera with IR and PT: the TP-Link TL-SC4171G, and the Trendnet TV-IP422WN.

I've never seen the two available in retail stores in Singapore before. TP-Link model was unknown, although TP-Link is known for its wireless routers. It looks a bit like the Foscam cameras, but not sure if it shares the same OEM. The Trendnet, on the other hand, shares the same OEM as the SMCWIPCAM-PZ (which was reviewed in the earlier part of this thread). This model however has an extra N suffix, which denote that it is a wireless N camera (the previous model is wireless G).

Talking about OEM, I noticed that the Trendnet TW-IP422W (not the N model) has had several firmware update, but the SMCWIPCAM-PZ is still having the same firmware. Recently, I updated the firmware for my RT-N56U router, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why the SMCWIPCAM-PZ does not give me an image anymore, while all other cameras continue to work with the upgraded router firmware.

Anyway, here's a photo of the two hoot I made today:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

If I have time, I will do a comparison of the image.

If I remember correctly, the TP-Link is about S$279, and the Trendnet is about S$259.

The no image problem didn't just occur to one of my SMC, but to both my SMC (I have two SMCs). No, I didn't drop SMC a note. I am seriously thinking of upgrading the Trendnet firmware to the SMCWIPCAM-PZ.

I already have 12 cameras of different brands, so two more is not going to make it more difficult. On my Ipad and my mobile, I am already using apps that can support multiple cameras. On my laptop, I am looking for a good software that can work with the different brands. So far, I have tried Visionica, Blue Iris and Netcam Watcher, but all seem to have problems working with some of my cameras.

While trying out the Trendnet and TP-Link routers, I managed to make some headway in diagnosing the problem of not getting images on my SMCWIPCAM-PZ. It seems that when I stop my anti-virus software (AVast), I could get the image.

But the thing is that I have already set up the necessary exclusion rules in AVast. I am not sure how updating the RT-N56U from 1.0.1.2 to 1.0.1.3 or 1.0.1.5 can actually stop the image.

Managed to set up the TP-Link TL-SC4171G and the Trendnet TV-IP422WN within an hour.

The TL-SC4171G does not allow you to turn off the "Power" and "Ethernet" LED. This is a shame because with its IR LED and IR Cut filter, it should be able to work in a totally dark room. With the "Power" and "Ethernet" light (blue and red LED) on, it can be a bit distracting in a completely dark room. My daughter kept saying that the light is keeping her awake. Yes, she is overly dramatic, but LEDs are indeed quite bright. This is like the H series, where I can't turn off the LEDs (all my other cameras allow me to turn off the LED lights). Instead, I ended up taping the LED to reduce the light. Will probably have to do the same for the TL-SC4171G.

The TV-IP422WN sport an interface that I am already familiar with: the SMCWIPCAM-PZ. However, like the SMCWIPCAM-PZ, it does not show any image when my RT-N56U router is using 1.0.1.5 firmware, unless I disable AVast. Funny thing is that I need to disable AVast first, get the image to appear, and then re-enable AVast and I still get the picture.

The TL-SC4171G is only wireless G, while TV-IP422WN is wireless N (single stream, meaning max speed is 150 Mbps). Haven't test out the low-light capability yet. The SMCWIPCAM-PZ has the tendency to switch to B/W mode when light is low i.e. switch to IR Mode. For the TL-SC4171G, I was looking at my room which was dark at one end and brighter at the other. Surprising, the dark end was in B/W mode, while the bright end was showing colour.
