uPnP routers

Recently bought a Panasonic BL-C111 (wired) PTZ IP camera at the IT Show exhibition. I found that it supports Auto port forwarding via uPnP.

So far, the only router that I tested successfully for Auto port forwarding via uPnP is the EnGenius ESR6650 3G router.

On the Jia Ying (local vendor for Panasonic) site at http://www.jiaying.com.sg/downloads.htm, they have a guide on 'How to set up port-forwarding on 2-Wire router (SingTel)' but there is no indication that the 2-wire router will support Auto port forwarding via uPnP.

It would be good to compile a list of routers and IP cameras that have been tested to do Auto port forwarding via uPnP.

2121's FOV is very narrow. It cannot even cover 1 room. So, if you need to have a wider FOV either select other model/brand or follow my instructions in post #151

Hi,

I recently saw a friend's Dlink DCS-920 IP camera. The software supports ActiveX and Java.

If the Dlink DCS-2121 supports Java, then it can be viewed in Linux and Mac etc.

You may wish to check out the 2121's manual at http://www.dlink.com.sg/support/support_detail.asp?idproduct=310 to ascertain whether its software supports Java. Or ask Dlink.

Just wanna share about FOSCAM IP Camera Product for the general public here.

Here are some sample screen shot taken from LIVE CAMS iPhone Apps.

This picture shows the FI8918W (Pan/Tilt), 2x FI8909W-NA (Fixed), &
DCS-920 in a total darkness room. The bright light spots are the IR LEDS
on the Foscam IP Cams.

You may choose to do recording using QNAP's TS-110 (2 cam) or SYNOLOGY
DS-111 (1 cam). For 4 Cams, SYNOLOGY allows you to purchase the add-on
licenses. Otherwise, you can consider QNAP's NVR VS2004L (4 cams).

These are good for DIY surveillance at home & businesses

Here's a sample screen capture of Surveillance Station on QNAP's TS-110

What are the prices for the Foscam cameras? Are any of the resellers in SLS, or are the Foscam only available from Marix?

Most cameras allow you to set a framerate, and some of them goes up to 30fps. The fps would depend on (a) the resolution size (b) the wireless speed. There is usually a lag e.g. I can walk out of the room, look at the camera image, and see myself walking out of the room. But the image is quite smooth, even for my oldest camera, the Linksys WVC-200. For my Dlink DCS-5635, the image is a lot smoother. Even the Foscam equivalent (H and F series) can show quite smooth images.

Hi,

You did not mention what kind of broadband is present at your in law's place.

For IP camera, once it is moved (switched off and subsequently switched on), the IP address may change. It will then be necessary to set the port forwarding again in order to enable remote viewing via the internet.

For the camera it is advisable to choose one who supports uPnP (Universal Plug and Play). I am not sure whether the Foscam camera supports uPnP.

I have a lower end Panasonic BL-C111 (wired) PTZ IP camera which supports uPnP, and I have managed to do Auto port forwarding within a few minutes with the EnGenius ESR6650 3G router, as well as the Zyxel NBG4115 3G router. These routers are highly portable and require a 3G sim card to provide the internet connection.

jerrypt,

Foscam does have uPnP Settings on its firmware interface.

Gluttonish,

For portability, many would opt for those 3G IP cameras by the telcos,
you are not affected by the location but by the 3G internet speed.

But, you should seriously consider setting up 1 IP Camera at each location
if you intend to use fixed Broadband connections. This way, you will
spent less time configuring/troubleshooting the cameras.

If you do not need Pan/Tilt, you can consider getting the Fixed Cameras
which will be cheaper in pricing.

:D

Recently, I have started looking at some software that allows me to view all my cameras (over 10 of them, and of different brands) simultaneously. Granted, I have a 30-inch monitor, so having multiple browsers is okay, but I rather save some desktop space.

I'm trying Blue Iris software, but I can't seem to get sound from my Linksys WVC200 and my LevelOne WCS-2040 and Dlink DIR-6620G. I am able to get sounds from my SMCWIPCAM-PZ, my Dlink DIR-5635 and the F-series and H-series (equivalent to Foscam and SmartEye). Haven't tried on the Edimax IC-7010PTn yet.

What other software is available? Would they work (with sound) on some of the older cameras? I know that my Android app (IP Cam) has problems with sound for the same cameras.

DR_ARCHER,

You may like to test out BSTI IP Camera Super Client, it works for foscam,
however, we have not tested if it works for others yet.

Cheers
