Re

The Samsung camera is configured to work on dynamic IP address. If you look at the DHCP server of the router, you can find out which IP address is given out to the camera. Then, use a browser to connect to that IP address. When you do so, you will be asked to provide a private key, which is actually the password to assessing the camera.

So can you view using Robert Chou's IP Cam Viewer? Are you using ASUS router?

I've set up using Robert Chou's IP Cam Viewer but not getting a video feed. May be should ask Robert Chou anything else he needs to enter into his software for it to work.

Everyone have their own needs of PTZ or fixed. Areas of viewing, etc. Let's not get too emotional which cameras we chooses here and start doubting each other's setup condition, we all have a purposes why we do things in certain ways.

We all have a brand, model that we like for sure. But have an open mind and see which camera works better for individual

I think there is a bug in the firmware. I can't set it up if I use Fixed IP address for the IP Camera. I need to use DHCP dynamic IP address before it works. If I use the fixed IP address, the subnet mask keeps defaulting to 255.255.240.0 instead of 255.255.255.0, and the gateway keeps going back to 0.0.0.0.

Sounds like a same characteristic I've seen on one of those made in china cameras, which the developers did not think about the possibility of using fixed IP...

Hope they fix this up.

Yes I am using Robert Chou's IP Cam Viewer (both Android and iOS versions). And being an Asus fanboy, I am also using their routers (2 units of N56, N66, AC66 and AC68 each :D ).

I think you are confusing DDNS and DHCP. DDNS maps the ISP issued address to the URL. Previously, I was using DynDNS but now using No-IP. Asuscomm.com is Asus's version of the DDNS service.

DHCP assigns an internal IP address to devices requesting for it. Such devices have to be configured as operating in a dynamic IP address mode. If you click on the Devices connected on the Network map (or home screen) of the Asus routers, you can see the devices that are connected to the Asus routers on the right side of the page, and their respective IP addresses.

Do you require port forwarding in this case? Can you can post the steps here using Robert Chou's software? Thanks

To set up portforwarding in Asus routers (N66/AC66/AC68), click on WAN under Advanced Settings (left side of the home screen).

Then choose Virtual Server/Port Forwarding. Choose Enable forwarding.

Next you key in the information for your camera. Service name can be anything (preferably your camera name/location). Port range is the port on the WAN side e.g. your.url.com:xxxxx where xxxxx is the port on the WAN side. Make sure you choose one that is not used by any program/service. Local IP is the local LAN IP (192.168.x.x). Local port is the port to access the camera. Typically, set it to port 80 (HTTP port). Protocol is TCP. Then click the '+' Add/Delete button. Remember to click Apply after this. The router will apply the settings, which I think basically reboot the router.

You need to set up the DDNS service. For that you need to register it.

On the IP Cam Viewer app, choose the right Make and Model (Make: Samsung; Model: Samsung SmartCam). Host/IP would be the DDNS URL that you have chosen/set-up. HTTP Port should be set at the external port you have configured the portforwarding i.e. the xxxxx above. User is admin, and Pswd is the login password for the camera.

If you are using the Dynamic IP for your camera, make sure that you get the LAN IP address from the Clients list and then set up the Virtual Server/Port forwarding.

Note that this process on the Asus is almost identical to the one on Dlink DIR-655 (and probably other Dlink routers). I wrote one guide (complete with screen dumps) at the start of this long thread. You can refer to that.

Since I'm using ASUS AC68U router do I need to set up the DDNS and to register? I thought ASUS's DDNS is ipcameras.asuscomm.com?

Asus DDNS is asuscomm.com. The first prefix is the hostname you choose. You could choose apparatus.asuscomm.com and this will be your DDNS host name. :)

You can only use their own offline player or play it online via webui. No other third party app. If you had read marix's blog, they already told everyone not to depend too much on the video recording with audio

Try this, find your WAN IP address first, then test using WAN IP address to key into the APP, if you can connect in, means DDNS not working due to some reason. If cannot connect in, your Port forwarding is wrong. Then work on solving your port forwarding.

Dr_Archer had given a very detailed explanation on setting up the port forwarding already.

Hi guys, I am looking for a security camera for my retail outlet (monitoring & surveillance). Any particular model/brand to recommend? This is my first time getting a security camera, would need more advise.

Will be better if it's plug & play (save me the hassle to configure all the settings)
Wide angle?
Able to record so I can view previous days recorded footage when I am free
Possible to listen to what my staff is talking via the security cam?? (Not important)

Lastly, I believe I need to sign up with any telco for wireless broadband for the camera to work right?

Thanks!
