Lin,
Mind sharing where you bought this VSTARCAM? Did you check back with the seller?

I bought it from one of the shops in sim lim tower.

Yeah, I have checked back with the seller and they asked me to fix my IP, DNS and upgrading of firmware. But the problem still persists.

So I'm going down to do an exchange with them.

OK that's normal. I believe that other IP address u see is your own PC IP address followed by destination host unreachable. Usually in this case the connection has dropped and a ipcam restart is needed right?

Somewhere the WiFi dropped and can't reestablish the connection, try out different wifi settings? Again I've not seen this for other cams which either display choppy video or comes back online when wifi is reconnected. Vstarcam (my model at least) needs to physically reset 80% of the time. If u only hv one cam prob get it changed, hopefully is a faulty unit. Mine happens to all cams so is clearly a design issue.

I know it is damn frustrating. U just want to set it up and it should just simply work instead of fiddling with this and that to trial and error with no real logic to go with.

Yes, that IP address is my PC's. I didn't realised it until you told me. Yes, usually in this case, I would have to do a power cycle in order to reboot the camera.

I have tried out different wireless settings as suggested by geckoSG but the problem still persists.

Yeah, I bought this camera because they said that it would be easy to install. Didn't know there's much unresolved issues. Sigh.

I even thought that it could be an issue with the connection, so I bought an microSD card to put it in the camera so that it can continue recording even after losing connection. But it doesn't seems to work that way. It seems like the whole camera will be down.

Waste my time and money running everywhere trying to solve this issue.

Edit: Yesterday night onwards, I have to do a power cycle a few times in order to boot up the camera. What rubbish.

More reliable brands? I think it really depends on application. If you using for home monitoring, you can get cheap Chinese CAMS. Industrial and retail, you probably want to run wires with IP cam or CCTV. I think Trendnet and AVTECH are reliable enough for industrial use.

Also check with local vendors and their attitude in handling customer complains. If it's the fly by night, give it a miss. I believe some vendors willing to ensure customer satisfaction here. You can call them to check terms and condition.

Get refund bah... you dont need static ip address to use this camera. What is the shop name you bought from?

I'm just very disappointed.

I want something that should work as intended and not blame my router or anything like it.

This time round I have to power cycle a few times before the camera would boot up.

I bought it from CEF Electronics Pte Ltd.

I saw it through this web and bought it in the shop itself: http://list.qoo10.sg/item/AUTHENTIC-VSTARCAM-IP-CAMERA-CCTV/411463031

I have just sent an email telling them that I would like to request for a refund.

Hopefully they'll allow me to do so.

Do you have any camera to recommend in the case where my refund is successful?

Sigh.

Edit: I only saw Matrix IT Distribution Pte Ltd after I bought my camera from CEF Electronics Pte Ltd.

Good luck to your refund. In fact vstarcam is PnP, uses dhcp. Static only if you uses onvif recording to NVRs. Why the hell they ask you to set to static?

I really have no idea. The reason they gave was that because my other devices might have conflicting IP address, which might contribute to the camera being offline due to loss of network connectivity.

But even so, my microsd should continue recording and not just the whole camera going offline though.

Hope they'll reply me by tomorrow.

Sorry for asking again, but do you have any other cameras for recommendation? Similar specifications will do.

Vstarcam wise, if u wanna buy, buy from marix, cos they directly call factory to report problem n they will also do test on the product range when you report the issues. Parallel importers sell cos its popular, imagine Vstarcam price so low that basically its eating dust for the main distributor. u will know how these parallel importers' selling method (trading by volume). End up problems will bring u to holland, so call local warranty is them giving u their own knowledge of support. You have your experience to prove to everyone here. Its sometimes these unauthorised sellers tat destroy a brand.

Geckco to be fair, mine also from marix with all the disconnect issues. It is so hard to troubleshoot very difficult to get any support. Time wasted is not worth the effort.

Yes it says 1 year local warranty.

Maybe they are the new distributor for this brand.

I went to visit their shop and saw a range of vstarcam products.

That day when I went down to exchange my camera, they told me they will not do another exchange for me if the problem still persists.

They said that since they have already changed it for me once, the problem shouldn't be on the camera anymore and should be due to some of the devices I'm using. (This doesn't sounds right to me since all other devices are working well with each other and only issue lies with the camera).

Thats why i strongly against people to buy vstarcam.

Lousy camera with issues that couldnt be resolved yet distributor did nothing but pushing the issue back to manufacturer which couldnt render the appropriate fix

Honestly, all distributors task is to market product n follow up on RMA n reflect problems back to manufacturer. How do you expect them to solve problems? Lolz.
