Hi there currently I'm using Dlink products DNR-322L for recording purposes. It's a quick good product for recording & I can view the playback from outside via cloud service. I think better to have the recording store in local instead of cloud.

Hi Davidau,

dont mind explaining why local storage is better?

Cause when i was doing my research, i thought to myself that remote cloud storage would be more sabotage proof leh.

Not only for my home monitoring but also my business premises as well.

Hi There,
There is a reason why locally would better.
1st recording locally is faster than via cloud as via cloud will took alot of your internet bandwidth that causing your network slowness. 2nd, Imagine if u have more than 5 camera then every month your recording size would be around 1TB base on the resolution
that you set.

Then for backup wise, cause DNR-322L is a Gigabit device, it will be faster to retrieve back the recorded files.

hi, i feel local storage can offer better security and privacy; cons it is limited to physical considerations and capacity.

for business aspect, wouldn't it be convenient to view your recordings whenever the net is available? tks

you can always configure it that way without relying on cloud.

For Business aspect, you can still view the live video or recorded files even your storage is locally & this would be more security.

yes. U can playback the recordings over the internet although the device is in your office. Many cloud based dvr/nvr already achieved this. Security wise, sabo proofing is something which can be resolved still by hiding or locking it.

Mummy need Help!

HI Gentlemen,
I need you advice and help:

There are so many great information in this thread, but it is a bit too much for a Mummy.... So I'm confuse..
I wanted DIY to install IP cameras:

-4pcs C7838WIP

I know it can use SD card to record. But I want to have it save in a hard disk..

What do I need ? a NVR and a HDD also?

Is it very difficult to DIY?

Thanks in advance!!

Trust me, don't get vstarcam cameras.

You will regret it.

If you want to save it onto a hdd, there are multiple approach.

FTP in to the target destination (eg, a NAS)

Can you elaborate why we should avoid VStarcam camera? Most of the models review on Amazon looks quite alright. Was intending to get some soon.
