What DDNS does is to 'assign' your router's public IP to a URL name. Your router only has one public IP. You can have multiple cameras behind your router, but it still only have one public IP. The cameras are distinguished by the ports e.g. camera 001 may be referenced by yourddnsname.homeip.net:50001 while camera 002 may be referenced by yourddnsname.homeip.net:50002. Thus only one DDNS is needed (yourddnsname.homeip.net) but your portforwarding rules would be needed for ports 50001 and 50002. For me for example, I have only one DDNS client, but I have over 20 cameras.

There are many reasons why WiFi will drop. I am not expert enough nor do I have the tools to ascertain the cause of WiFi drop. The drop could be coming from the router side or the camera side. It could be caused by external interference such as channel congestion and even microwave ovens.

I do have the 408 model but haven't set it up to run 24/7, so I do not know if that model has any WiFi drop issue. I do have the older model (402} and that one has the occasional WiFi drop. But then all my cameras have the occasional WiFi drop which requires a power on/off reset. Sometimes, I even have to reset my routers, but that is probably a different story.

Ic, thanks a lot for your comment. :)

Maybe will just get the DCS-5020L instead or give the aztech a try.

From the picture, it shows that the camera can be mounted upside down. The picture also shows that you don't plug the camera directly into the wall socket, but via a cable. In other words, the design of the housing is like the traditional IP cameras.

Googling for the camera, it seems to share the same OEM as Devolo. Devolo was reviewed on the following:

Devolo dLAN LiveCam review | Expert Reviews

Thanks for info. Saw the datasheet. Might get one to play this weekend

Someone mentioned having problem with Aztech WIPC401. Well, I am having issues as well. Was able to see on my browser and HP. Keep it after using it for a while. Yesterday took it out. Can't connect on my PC browser. But my android phone no problem. Can view via the default browser.

Then today, both cannot. BTW device firmware is 21.37.2.43. Need to upgrade? If yes, where to download? Cannot find on their website.

On another note, with all the discussion on IP camera, I am wondering whether I should get a new one instead. If yes, which model? Just want to monitor the living room where my kid will be at while we are at work. Please advise and thank you.

Requirement:
1. Able to monitor day and night.
2. Can move the camera.
3. Sound is not a requirement but it would be good to have.
4. No need motion sensor.
5. Recording no need to have. But if want, is it complicated to set up? Must the IP cam be connected to a PC?

Thank you very much!

Hi all, can anyone recommend me a reliable, easy to setup IP Cam for monitoring my dog?

- Needs to monitor day and night (in the dark) if possible

- Have good range of angles for pan/tilt

- clear video playback/feeds (HD I suppose?)

- Access live feeds on android/iPhone and any PC/Laptop

- Recording both sound and video

- Motion sensor a bonus

Looking forward to guidance/advice

Thanks!

Sound n video recording? Look for d-link, only one so far wif audio recording. Other brands can fulfill less audio recording. Marix's VStarcam u can consider, saw they also got a live clip showing doggies eating food on their blogspot.

Thanks. Is it easy to set up? I actually have a Aztech WIPC401 and am having problem with it. Not sure what is wrong. I even set to DMZ mode on my router. If it's easy to setup that would be good. I'll be going down to challenger later.

For Vstarcam, tats what i observe, sometimes early pull out before it starts rotating, the wifi may not set in. So best to allow a full rotation to start first before pulling out.

Dr-Archer, for the Aztech HIPC700, I am getting it from MARIX. They are getting it for me at $105 each. U want to get from them too? Next week can self collection at their office if you are keen

Yes, PT331V is the latest Sineoji HD version ipcam. Quite sure it is a firmware problem, everything will be fine again after reboot.
I think I have found the reason for my PT331V to hang so frequently. I used to leave my IE browser connected to the camera's web UI over many days, only hibernating my PC when I am not using the PC, which seemed to make the camera prone to hanging. But for the past week, I close my IE browser after checking that the camera's recording sessions are ok. The camera had been fine for 5 days without any problem.

Thanks but I went down to Challenger last evening and bought one set at the member price (think it is $109).

Didn't have a chance to open up the box. Camera is normal VGA resolution. So we may see a HD version in the future. My own test of Homeplugs show them to be slightly faster than wireless N so HD homeplugs cameras should be fine if your house wiring is not too noisy.

Glad u found the source of problem. But it means tat constant connection to the camera will cause it to hang. Maybe I should find time n test it on my VStarcam.
