Hi Gurus,

IP cam newbie here. I've set up my ip camera and can view within LAN but could not access from WAN. I'm using a Dlink 2640T ADSL modem and in the DDNS setting, I'm to key in my host name and password.

DDNS server - Only hve selection of www.dyndns.org or ip-cam.org.
Host name - xxxx.dlinkddns.com
Question:

1. Is it ok if my host name is different from the DDNS server? If no, means I need to register either with dyndns or ip-cam?
2. Can I access my ipcam without setting up the DDNS?

Appreciate ur help. Tks. Btw, I did try to read thru' all pages but may hve missed something.

A DDNS server allows you to set up a look-up between the IP address (in words) and the IP address (in numbers) as assigned by your IPS. Instead of using 123.45.67.89, you can use a name such as xxx.homeip.net. As such, you must set up at the DDNS server the right name. In this case, since your Dlink router only has www.dyndns.org or ip-cam.org, you must set up valid accounts there.

1)For ip camera, can I use 3G router with 3G dongle to view? or is it too slow? ( i using starhub package tv+boardband, then free use of 3G, i think is the lowest 3G as it is free.

2)Does any ip camera can control swing left right or up down which control by iphone/android phone?

1) Are you referring to using a 3G router on the IP camera network, or using a 3G router outside e.g. from the office? In either case, both are fine. For me, the issue seems to be more from a network to network hop. My home network is on Singnet. If I use M1 3G network (using my iPad2), the pictures are slow (low fps). However, using a SingTel network (using my Galaxy Tab 10.1, or my mobile phone), the better IP cameras can give me continuous motion (higher fps).

2) If you camera has pan-tilt (PT) function, most apps allow you to pan left-right tilt up-down.

Hi all ! Read the thread. Anyone can recommend a IP camera with recording(externally i suppose) for a baby play center? Good vid quality and zoom would be good... and PTZ. hmm

Of all the IP cameras I have, the best is Dlink's DCS-5635. Via an iPad2 or an Android phone, the fps is very good. The app I am using (IP Cam Viewer Pro) also allows for video recording direct to my Android phone/Galaxy Tab 10.1. The camera also allows you to record to an SD card, and probably to a NAS too.

The only downside is that (a) it doesn't have built-in IR illuminators; (b) the cost (costs over S$1K each).

DLINK DCS-932L IR IP camera

Anyone has taken a look at the new DLINK's-932L day/night IR fixed IP camera? I think it's not available here yet. Hope that it arrives at the SITEX SHOW. You can watch its use on Youtube.

Its IR range is 5m and FOV is 45 deg. For most HDB unit it is adequate for room, balcony & kitchen use. Not too sure for large hall & long common corridor

Well...if IR light is inadequate then I suppose you can add external IR light sources.

Thinking of changing all my existing DLINK fixed cameras to this new model because cannot see inside the house when the sky outside turns dark especially when rain is imminent

How to view my camera if I am out of my house?
My wireless router should register to DDNS? or

Anyway, i tried router register to NO-ip.com,
and wirless camera register to DHS.org but is super difficult to do setting and i really give up. How to do setting?

I still cant use DDNS. But i successful using my wireless router as ip address. I heard if OFF router, the ip will change.

But the router IP address will change even my router on 24 hrs???
if not, then i will forget abt DDNS. :)
