Looking for an IP Camera.

Anyone bot from Dealextreme SKU 26358 ? Looks
like a Foscam clone price $us 64.80 free shipping.

I hope its a good cam cos it has alarm I/O so
i can control a light and auto gate.

Any inputs?

Maybe if you are lucky, can flash the Foscam's FW into it too... LOLz

Hi, i am new to ip camera, i have a few q that need to clarrify before buying the right ip camera.

In my home i do not have a internet connection, however i usually use iphone as modem on my laptop. Would that be possible to use iphone as router to connect the ip camera?

And does the quality of ip camera depend on the video resolution or highly influence by the speed of the camera.

Lastly, which ip camera that has 2 way communication . Mean, i can communicate live to where the camera is located

The only wireless IP camera that I know that does not require an internet connection is the Prolink PHC1005, which uses a 3G connection directly. I don't have that and can't comment on how it works.

I don't know what you are referring to when you ask about the quality of the ip camera. If you are referring to the quality of the image, then it is a function of the sensor used, as well as the internet connection.

Most IP cameras have a 2-way communication i.e. you can listen and you can speak. To effect speech however, you will have to attach a speaker to the camera. There is a built-in mic on the camera, so you don't need any extra hardware if you want to listen.

Thanks, what i mean the quality of recording, is it depend on the speed of the internet. Will it lagging like a skype webcam. So i wonder what determine the speed is it the fps or internet or both.

And 2 way communication. Like if i attach speaker on the ip camera, so if i am viewing from overseas, can i speak tothe person at home and they can listen ti me from the speaker

I also like to know if ip camera can function as telepresence technology , like having teleco ference
Or virtual face to face meeting

Thanks for the input

Internet/network speed will affect how quickly you can store the video. It is the sensor that affects quality (like the sensor for a DSLR). Some cameras allow you to alter the settings e.g. gain etc., so you may be able to 'tune' the recorded video to have a better IQ.

Yes, attaching a speaker will allow you to broadcast your voice to the IP camera. You need to have a right app though.

And ys, if you know what you are doing, you can configure the wireless IP cam to be like a web-cam.

Hi, I am helping my friend to set-up ip camera for him to monitor his grandparents

I am planning to get 3 IP camera from simlim square and not sure which camera to get. Most prob will be Aztech WIPC302 due to budget constraint.

1.Also, his grandparents' house doesn't have internet. We intend to subscribe internet just to install ip camera. Just that we aren't sure which service provided is easy to setup for remote access to the camera and setup DNS.

2.Any router to recommend as I know 2wire has issue of port forwarding.

3.And is there a way to record video (for about 3-4 days span) which way is better?
1. Remotely to 24/7 desktop at my friend house OR
2. Record at the LAN desktop and allow remote access to watch the video

Thank You :)

1. any service provider will do
2. 2wire latest series allows easy port forwarding features
3. recording? can consider IP cameras with internal recording, H6837WI?
4. With item 3, dun need item 4.

I'm using Aztech WIPC302 camera together with Engenius ESR9850 wireless router. No issue with DNS as each Aztech cam comes with an unique address. Likewise no issue with port forwarding with Engenius router.

Basically, just assigned a fix internal IP for Aztech cam and port forward in Engenius router. That's all.

No experience with recording although Aztech do have an option to do that.

On internet, if your grand parents location do have fiber, then can try the M1 low cost $39 per month promotion. I guess those fiber packages will have more superior local upload speed than cable and ADSL (correct me if I'm wrong) which is crucial for live streaming from your grand parents location.

i use dlinkddns.com service, but i got email from dyndns.com said my ip is block because of abuse use.
now my cam is not able to see from internet anymore :(
any idea how to fix this?
i use belkin router and dlink ip-cam.
only first day i can see my cam from internet use xxx.dlinkddns.com
after that i need to do nslookup xxx.dlinkddns.com to get the ip address, then type it with the port i open in browser to able see my cam.

is my router not do the job update the ip or i should not do nslookup or how?
thanks for any guide/ info.

I got the same "abuse use" when I use free dyndns last time, solution is to pay or change another dyndns provider. I'm using No-IP - Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Your Dynamic IP now, so far so good, only gripe is every 30days have to go validate (let them know your account is alive). Small price to pay since it's free.

1 - if no internet access:

Just get a cheapo wireless router, connect the cams via wifi, if have pc on site, then use the pc to record 24/7, or record to a NAS. Check if the cam can record to a FTP or smb path to the NAS, otherwise get a nas that can record from the ipcams.

When visiting, can review the recordings from the pc, or from a dlna app on your smartphone if viewing from the nas.

2 - if got internet access

get a cheapo adsl/cable modem or use the one given by ISP to add on to the above (the the one given have no wireless). If come with wireless, then skip the above wireless router. Have to config port forwarding & ddns, then you can "live view" from your smart phone or a remote pc. Any modern router have this feature, even my ancient wrt54g also have.

Or you can get a 3G enabled wireless router.

I advise recording to a local host rather than remote host reason being if internet not avail, it still can record internally. Also there's no guarantee on the bandwidth quality if you record remotely.

Hi I have a Synology NAS and from my understanding it comes with a free license to allow me to view an IP camera externally for free (something like that).

I would like to get an IP camera (need not be wireless) and be able to view and record onto the NAS, able to view externally or better still, to be viewed from iPhone. I do not need to have a pan an tilt one, just a normal one will do. If comes with night vision that would even be better. Price wise maybe budget of about $300 estimated.

I have been looking at the list of "approved" IP cameras by Synology and USERS and I am kind of lost.

Synology Network Attached Storage - Compatibility - Surveillance Station IP camera Support List
User Reported Compatible IP Cameras - SynologyWiki

I have an old existing D-link DCS-950G but somehow I am not able to configure it to work.

Please advise. Thank you.

Try setting the model by selecting one of the approved DLINK cameras from the Synology and user lists

Contact the Live Cam Pro developer and ask whether they can help you out. If they're willing very likely they'll ask you to supply your camera ip address for them to access and test your camera remotely

I am accessing my ip camera (H6837WI) on my iPhone using Livecams Pro as well as IP cam viewer. I have never achieve a smooth movement live video. i.e any movement in the house is always delayed by 1-2 seconds and the movements are staggered and not continuous. This is unlike when viewing via IE.

I have tried reducing the Video size to QVGA. Also tried to reduce the Frame rate. But movements are still uncontinuous and delayed.

What else can be done to have a smooth video view on these iPhone apps? This is important because quick movement like your maid slapping a baby cannot be viewed if movement are delayed & uncontinuous....

Thanks in advance for any advice!:s12:

It's true that movement on the iPhone is slow. I doubt subscribing for a higher speed 3G plan can solve the problem if WiFi also produces slow response.

For home surveillance, especially maid abuse, it's always good to have video recording. In case if you're suspicious of maid abuse then record the video as evidence. Even if you happens to see your maid abusing your kid remotely without evidence it's difficult to prosecute her, if necessary. You can record and then playback the video daily at the end of the day or once a week depending on situation.

Nobody has the time to sit in the office the whole day just looking at the PC/iPhone to monitor their maid.

Aztech just released a new IP camera with pan & tilt function @ S$199 retail price (I believe the price will be lower during IT show). It seems the video quality is similar to WIPC302 (VGA) and pan & tilt is newly added function.

Aztech Singapore

Anyway, any other brand/models should I consider for a pan&tilt feature @ S$199 ?

Thanks

This looks like a Foscam OEM, but may not be one. The Foscam has a lower price point though. Mediapro also sells a B series @ S$139. It is one of the lowest priced pan-and-tilt IR wireless IP cam that I have come across.

My home internet is SingNet Fibre. I have a 3G plan from SingNet, M1 and Starhub. I noticed that if I am using M1 and Starhub, the images are not smooth like you said. I am using different versions of IP Cam Viewer (Android for phone, Android for Samsung Tab and iOS version for iPad2). I've swapped around the SIM cards, and found that the versions do not matter. What matters is the 3G plan. Seems that there is significant network delay. SingNet 3G to SingNet fibre is the fastest. I could achieve 30 fps on my wireless N IP cameras (DIR-5635) with this. Any other combination, I see staggered movements. Delay is always noticed however (of up to 1 to 5 seconds). For example, I call home, and the ring can be heard directly, but it only sounds 1 to 5 seconds later on IP Cam Viewer.
