I don't have enough experience with CCTV so I can't comment. What I like about wireless IP cameras is the flexibility of deploying them. I can also view them via my mobile devices.

Trend net has recently announced some new wireless IP cameras. Two models, TV-IP651WI and TV-IP672WI are now available (from Mediapro). The former supports VGA resolution (640x480) which the latter supports WXGA resolution (1280x800). Both are pan-and-tilt models and support infra-red viewing.

I bought the HD model. Will see if I have time this weekend to post a brief hands-on view. Price for this is below $250.

Hi Dr Archer, thanks for the info, saw this 2 cameras on the brochure, look forward to your review

One question, where you store your ip camera videos? Individual sd card on the cameras? Or nas?

For now, I do not save/store the video. I use the cameras on-demand i.e. I view them real-time from my mobile devices. If I were to store them in the future, most likely the videos will go on a NAS (I have a couple of NASes).

wow a couple of NASes

You can start another thread to review all the NASes you have :)

By the way, what frame rates do you normally set for your SD and HD cameras?

My usage for HD cameras is mainly to communicate with the children. Thinking of setting 30 fps, the size of the image is going to grow super fast, and the NAS processor speed must be super powerful.

Using firmware 0.1.3.5.51. When it prompt me wrong password and I key in back the default password 888888 it show me someone else cam. Koaz.

Hi, could you advise us if you had used static IP address and ports for your camera or using dynamic ip and default port for your cameras? And are you using the uPnP on the router?

How many cameras are you using at 1 location?

To Foscam ipcam owners, is there a way to turn off the lights at the base (at the back) ? Seems like no way to turn off from the Web setup? My trendnet IP can able to switch off the lights.

Anyone uses poe ipcam here? Which brand good and affordable for home use?

Dr Archer, I went to media pro asked for demo of trend net 672wi but was recommended dlink 5222l instead. You have both cameras? Which is better buy in terms of video quality and infra red capabilities?

Apologies. Didn't manage to set up the Trendnet TV-IP672wi yet. But looking at the specs for both cameras, they both uses a 1/4" CMOS sensor. While the angle of view is smaller for the DCS-5222l, both models have the same pan, tilt and zoom specs. DCS-5222l has 4 IR LEDs that support IR illumination up to 5 meters, while the TV-IP672wi has 6 IR LEDs that provide illumination up to 7.5 meters. Both sported a microSD card slot.

POe?

Hi

May I be advised on these?

What is the advantages of using a POE camera over a AC one?

I need to install cams for my office.

3 to 4 in fact. I have many spare RJ45 outlets, and would prefer a slimline installation rather than my old cctv with ac adaptors that commit suicide over time.

Do I just have to buy a POE switch? For recording NAS or pc better?

Trendnet TV-IP262PI

Thanks in advance

Using POE you don't need to cater a additional power cable source for the cam, going forward that should be the way. It make use of network cable to transmit power and at same time your data also use the same network cable, which in a way is also more reliable than wireless.

You will of course need a poe switch which isn't that cheap at the moment and your device must support poe, otherwise you need to get poe injector and splitter.

It's the business model to mik money from the consumers.

For those who use wifi cams, any issue with data loss in recording eg image not recorded due to router network bottleneck ?

VStarcam H6837WI experience

Hi, is anyone using VStartcam H6837WI from Marix?

I got one last year and have intermittent problems with it. Sometimes it will hang and connection is lost. After rebooting, it will behave for a while.

I had sent it down for repair at least 4 times. They have been quite good with after sales service. After each repair, mainly flashing the rom, problems still return after a while.

Care to share your experience? Thanks.

Which router are you using? Are you using wireless or wired? Is your camera on 24/7? Most of the time, it is the router that is losing the wireless connection. You may want to try to reboot your router to see if it is the router problem.

Hi Dr_ARCHer,

Thanks for your reply.

I am using a basic DLink ADSL wireless router.

I have a timer that switch off my router and IPcam after midnight and switch on at 7am daily.

Router is in study room while the IPcam is in the living room. 4-room flat.

Whenever I lost connection to the IPCam, I'll power off/on it. After which the connection comes back again.

Would you be able to teach me how to see if the router has lost connection to the IPcam?

Thanks.

Have u tried rebooting router instead of camera to see if it reconnects back? I've had experience before on my miobox previously tat once i restart my router, the cams came back online.
