Hi Experts!

My first time buying a IP camera. Comparing Dlink DCS-5222L & TrendNet TV-IP672WI. Any feedback and review? Thanks.

Hi, is anyone using VStartcam H6837WI from Marix?

I got one last year and have intermittent problems with it. Sometimes it will hang and connection is lost. After rebooting, it will behave for a while.

I had sent it down for repair at least 4 times. They have been quite good with after sales service. After each repair, mainly flashing the rom, problems still return after a while.

Care to share your experience? Thanks.

If wireless, I suspect that your wireless may not be stable. If wireless is stable, the camera will not lose connection easily. My last DIR-851 keeps dropping the camera, I keep blaming my cameras, within 1-2 weeks, signs shows that my router is dying and once I replaced my router, my cameras have not dropped connection.

Hope this information helps. Wireless signal if not consistant will cause drops to connection. IP Camera's wireless cards are not as good as laptops. So, you need to know the limitation too.

Yes. You can use it as an extender to provide wireless or wired connection to any wireless IP cameras
If i use wireless, I have to connect to the HL110EW SSID instead of the router SSID?

means i have to setup with wired connection before i can use wireless with HL110EW?

Or can i bridge? HL110EW with my router?

Yes, you should have your camera connected to the HL110EW if it is meant to extend your network. Otherwise, it will make no sense to add it into your network if you want to connect directly to the router.

Extender is mainly used to extend your wireless network to area which your router cannot provide any good stable signals.

So, you should setup your HL110EW first before you can use the wireless of the extender to secure it.

OK, just to share my short user experience on 4 cameras which I have laid my hands on recently.

2 were from IPS while 2 were from VStarcam. All these were from MARIX. IPS were sample units MARIX brought in to test its features.

The 2 models from IPS were IPS-Eye01W (2M HD), IPS-Eye02W (1M HD) and T6836WIP (MJPEG), T7838WIP (1M HD) from VStarcam.

A short summary first on each camera for now.

Starting from IPS.

IPS-Eye01W, this is a 2megapixel camera with resolution max at 1600x1200, the max bitrate supported is 4096kbps. It supports LIVE Streaming like VStarcam using the same P2PCAM264 or RSEE APP (RSTP). The camera supports ONVIF so, Synology NAS can pick up the video stream and records to it. It supports local recording to MicroSD Card. Image is definitely sharp on webUI

CONS: No built in speaker, so can only listen but not speak, need to attach external speakers. Not exactly plug and play, factory set IP to fixed IP. so camera will not work in other subnet other than 192.168.1.x. Sound quality wise, I don't think they can match VStarcam for now. There is no AUDIO recording for this camera. It is on only wireless-G max. Slow PAN/TILT swipe on mobile devices

IPS-Eye02W, this is a 1megapixel camera, it have almost the same features as the E7839WIP that I had reviewed before. AUDIO recording, networking drive saving. Wireless-N support. Image wise is sharp.

CONS: No built in speaker, so can only listen but not speak, need to attach external speakers. Not exactly plug and play, factory set IP to fixed IP. so camera will not work in other subnet other than 192.168.1.x. Slow PAN/TILT swipe on mobile devices

T6836WIP, this is a MJPEG camera, improved with PnP feature and LIVE Streaming on mobile. Sound wise is clear as per H6837WIP, wireless-N support, IR-CUT Filter.

CONS: LIVE Streaming on mobile APP will lag more compared to H6837WIP, expected as it is MJPEG. But is clear if you compared APPLE to APPLE with other brands. As you get LIVE Streaming over frame by frame updates.

CONS: no built-in microSD Card slot, this is purely for monitoring only.

T7838WIP, this is the 1megapixel HD camera. Same PnP and LIVE Streaming as H6837WIP. Looks wise, I like it cos it looks cool. Sharp images.

CONS: No AUDIO recording. No recording to Network Drive also. Plastic Mounting bracket is suitable only for up side down mounting. Side mounting will make your viewing looks weird. I really mean weird. This is the same for any models that uses flat mount to the wall.

Above are my personal experience. As of my writing, I know MARIX had release sample clips of the streaming for the VStarcam on their own blogspot. Haven't seen anything yet for IPS.

Have u tried rebooting router instead of camera to see if it reconnects back? I've had experience before on my miobox previously tat once i restart my router, the cams came back online.

Hi Gecko,

I have tested over the weekend. When the connection to IPCam is lost, I attempted the router reboot. However, it did not help. Only when rebooting the IPCam it helps.

I'll try connecting the IPCam to network cable to see if it still hangs.

Are you able to ping the camera when u noticed lost connection? When connection lost, are you able to direct connect using LAN cable without shutting down and access the camera?

Another way I normally test is leaving the camera nearer to my router on wireless for 1 - 2 days and see if the connection of the camera gets dropped. Did you see wrong password on your app? If yes, call MARIX to fix it.

Hi geckoSG,
Have tested placing the cam next to the router for a few days. At the same time, I have stopped powering off the cam nightly. So far it is behaving. I will test it at a further distance but maintaining line of sight. Thanks for the advice.

No worries, IP Cameras fails for a lot of reasons. WiFi, etc.
