VStarCam works with Robert Chou's IP Cam Viewer. I have Tiny but don't use it. I will try that out on my iPad.

Note that you don't always need to choose the exact brand/model. Some brands/models share the same OEM, so a similar one will work. For example, the F series and H series that I got from Mediapro uses either Foscam or SmarEye drivers.

Thanks. I don't mind using the provided apps for now, but it's good to know if and when I add new cams of other brands I can work them with an encompassing app.

I have two Vstar cams set up exactly the same. T7833WIP on port 80 and 7838 on port 81. Both port forwarded. They both have worked from outside the network. Now the T7833WIP is showing "Errors in network communication: in the "Factory DDNS Status" on the main page of the camera options. If I reboot the camera it comes back on line. It is wireless and the 7838 is wired. Anyone else with this problem?

The 2 models of VStarCam I have both worked with TinyCam Free. You use the Foscam driver.

I have the exact issue as you with my T7838WIP. Used to work fine and port forwarding, then it decide to go offline.

My understanding is that if you using the PnP feature, you don't need to set up DDNS and portforwarding rules. As such, failure of getting an image from the cameras is likely a result of the cloud service of the PnP. If you need DDNS and portforwarding, then you are connecting direct to your home router via the WAN side. Failure to get an image could be due to DDNS issues or due to incorrect portforwarding rules.

Which DDNS do you use? Not all DDNS services are supported by some routers. Previously, I use DynDNS, but need to run a utility on my PC as I always have problem with the router's DDNS function. Now I use No-IP and my router works fine.

Do not rely on the factory's DDNS for Vstarcam, quite frequently offline nowsaday due to overwhelm of the accounts.


Buy a cheap third party DDNS will be better. But if you are having multiple vstarcams, the multiview live streaming should be much better isn't it?

I use No-IP.org. Works very well for me. My Asus routers also have access to Asus free DDNS service, but haven't tried that yet.

I have a vstarcam T7838WIP and so far it's working fine for inside the home. Recently I found inexpensive items missing left outside my home, so I decide to point the camera facing the corridor but it's still inside my home. It can't seen to have the motion detection upon someone walk pass. Anyway to solve this issue ?

You are better off using the full recording instead of motion detection, as the camera uses software comparison of image, it has 50/50 percent hit/miss rates. And in many circumstances, by the time motion detection is detected, the guy would be long gone...

get your electrician to mount a 13A socket above false ceiling, the plug the camera's power adapter in better.

Questions regarding T7835WIP.

For the SD recording, does it over ride the oldest file once the card is full? Or it just stops recording completely.

How easy is the installation? I do not have a WPS router.

Lastly, I am using a 10Mbps ADSL line... is it sufficient for decent viewing off-site?

Default is override. Very easy setup one. U call marix they will teach u. Plug, scan, set wifi. Format sd. All from mobile.

10mbps... maybe yes n no. Starhub is 768kbps max for upload so may not be good enuff.

IP Cam for baby monitoring

Hi,

I had done a little bit of research on which IP cam to buy and have some further questions which I need gurus here to assist me with.

My objective of buying the cam is to monitor my baby (newborn in cot) when i am away at work during the daytime as well as when my wife start working, to monitor at night, for my mother to react when baby is crying. My wife and I would like to have the baby sleep with us and when the baby is crying and hungry, my mother who is sleeping in another room to be able to hear and see my baby through an iphone. Some requirements as below:

1) Pan/Tilt
2) Audio feedback (basically when there are sounds made by my baby girl, my mother can hear through her phone in the other room)
3) Night monitoring (for my mother to see my baby through her phone in the other room)
4) Recording to SD (optional)
5) remote viewing from android and iphone (using 3g/4g/wifi)
6) Easy mounting on wall
7) Plug and Play

Was hoping to utilize this camera for future as well when my girl grows up and will be running about. Looking to get 2 units.
My main concern is actually the audio feedback to the iphone and whether is it in real time and very sensitive. Also on the mounting options, whether i have to drill any holes in the wall to mount on the wall.

I had read the forums and am looking at the vstarcam brand.

Was wondering what is the difference between the 3 models as below. With a new baby, very tight now! So hopefully the 7835 model would suffice. BUt would like to understand whats the difference between all three models.

Get T7835WIP will do since you got tight budget. They last advised tat factory have made T7835WIP with same hardware specs as T7838WIP.

You need to drill hole on ceiling if you want to mount it. $129 good pricing still judging from the price drop. They r selling u wif psb approved power adapter which parrallel importers does not in order to reap max profit from u. Anything they dont know will still ask u to call marix. So, pay marix directly instead.

The network engineers there know their stuffs well.

I won't give advice on which camera to get. GeckoSG bro's advice is as good as it gets. Rather I thought I share some pointers with you on looking after the newborn, based on experience of having 3 kids. I bought my first IP camera (Linksys WVC200) for the specific purpose of monitoring my first born. It replaces a Philips audio-only baby monitor. Since then, I have this obsession with wireless IP cameras.

Presumably, your wife will be breastfeeding your child. She could either feed directly from her breast, or via the bottle. In my case, we find feeding from the bottle more 'scientific'. Feeding directly off the breast is good to build up mother-child, but sometimes, it is a bit difficult to gauge how much milk is produced/consumed. Expressing them and feeding via a bottle means you know exactly how much to feed/have been fed.

Newborns are notorious in extracting the maximum amount of attention from the parents. With an audio-only baby monitor, when the baby cries, you never know if the baby is in trouble or just crying out for attention. With an IP camera, you can see the baby directly. Don't go to the baby the first sign of a cry, else the baby will associate crying with getting attention. Progressively, the baby will learn that crying will not necessarily get any attention, so you won't have the baby crying too frequently.

One arrangement between my wife and I is that one of us should have a good night sleep. No point both of us having our sleep interrupted. At least, if one of us has a good night sleep, that person that 'take over' the following night rather than have continuous nights of interrupted sleep.

One of the best investment I had is a freezer. With extra breast milk, you can freeze them for later use. Frozen milk can be stored for at least one to two months. That way, you can keep breast feeding going longer than the first 3 months. To defrost milk or keep them warm, put them in a hot bottle and put the bottle into a thermos cup filled with hot water. This is a trick we learned from our confinement lady.

And just to keep this post relevant, dLink now has a model marketed as baby IP monitors. Besides giving you audio and video, it can also record temperature of the room and play some lullabies. Much as I would like to try one out (I did say I have this obsession), my kids are older now (youngest one is 4 years old), so buying one is really a white elephant.

They r no longer keen on maintaining the free ddns server from wat I understand since they got their pnp technology. I no longer depend on their ddns but signed up for the cheapest dyndns plan instead.

Hi gecko, which one do you recommend? Does "No-IP" stable?
