Can the experts here share some tips for securing ip cam layout for home assuming already changed passwords, different http ports. Given most of the ip cam firmware and software seem pretty weak and vulnerable to attacks. Assume access from outside using smartphone/tablet app.

One extreme i can think of is separate network with say another cable/fibre line. Starhub dual network comes to mind. But thats prob too expensive.

do IP cams generally use https for video streaming? Or does it depend on the brand?

Depends on the brand. Have tried a few different brands of IP camera, and realized that some uses https, others use rtsp.

Still trying to stream out from Xiaoyi Ant Camera. The older version of the firmware uses RTSP, but unable to use RTSP with the new firmware. And not able to connect via HTTP either, so not really sure what they use now.

Looking to get a camera to mount on the wall in the corner of my living room.
Angle of view should be at least 90 degrees. How to check this from specs of cameras?

Most plug and play IP cameras do not require ports, if you use cameras using ports forwarding, then you will definitely face issues of people hacking your password and viewing what you are seeing.

Even if you put the cameras on separate network, no difference.

Samsung's ones are wide angle around 110 degree, MARIX's vstarcam OEM can fit wide angle lens (across top right to bottom left, up to 90 degree)

If you are using pan/tilt, most probably, you can pan/tilt, so may not require any further lens changes, etc

Hello all,

Any idea that currently my wireless IP camera is having intermittent connection issue...it keep connect & disconnect..

Easy, test with wired connection, if you still have disconnection, it is the camera. For wireless setup, put camera next to router for a few hours and see if it disconnect, if other devices does not disconnect, it means that wireless between router and IP cameras is the issue.

Setting wireless to pure-N and single encryption will resolve most issues. Also, please be aware also that some crap routers by ISP cannot support continuous streaming continuously.

i got mention before. dont rely on wireless connections. i am not sure what is your model but the wifi chipsets are most probably crap. thats how makers make more money.

Because my router was in the living room and I install this outside of my door thats why cable is not long enough..

Anyone using Sineoji ipcam's? What's your experience with it viz-a-viz the hardware n software like the Client (PC)?

I bought the PT495V at Comex2015 mostly becoz it accepts 128GB sdcard for recording, but found the Client sw poor in not being able to download wirelessly to the PC. It only dl one file for every new startup of the Client sw...I found this amazing for times like this when technology is so advance and....!?!!

The ipcam is not listed in IP Camera Viewer Lite, if not I would try it and see.
micah4,

Were you trying to download the the recorded files from your sdcard to your PC ?

You can download via wireless by using this command on your web browser.

http://192.168.x.x/sd

Check what is the ip address of the camera and follow the above command.

If you wish to setup via ipcam viewer lite, you may use a compatible camera.

"Acromedia IN-009".

If you need assistance, we will be more than happy to come over to assist you.

Here is a screenshot of the PT495V on IPCam Viewer Lite.

Well, what do you know...the IR Auto seemed to work after all. Last night I set it IR Auto before bedtime and this morning the IR was off automatically.

...bad is that IR/IR Auto cannot be set with the app ONLY thru the PC Client s/w!

micah4,

You can set the IR auto with the app. You might have download the older app from Sineoji.

Go to Google Play and search "Sineoji ipcam". You will see a new app, this app will allow you to turn on/off or Auto of your infra red.

you have to make compromises.

1) use a longer lan cable to have better connection. it will be messy.

2) bring router or camera closer to each other. much neater but poor connectivity.

for me, i am enjoying my foscam FI9826P. it is connected by lan cable and i dont have a single connection issue. i can ftp screenshots and save videos on ALL alarms. the only problem is my screenshots interval has to be 2 seconds or above. or else the camera will freeze after some time.

Have you tried using Powerline to route your wired ethernet? I do not use it for my IP camera, but do use it for my PC in my room as the Cable modem is just too far away and wireless from living to bedroom is very poor.

Davidau, which router r u using? To set as pure N, encryption shld b WPA2-PSK, AES encryption only. For longer distance, use 20mhz only instead of 20/40mhz. Change from b/g/n to N only. Its tat simple

For powerline, you may still have disconnection once a while, just remember to skip all 200mbps models.
