I was at tang orchard on Friday afternoon for my saphir (&@&@%#*^...bought a wrong one) but did not see anything special there . Only too many sales gal talking to each other and no customer.

Their current stocks (i was there on Tuesday) is very much depleted. They used to have a lot in store (2-3 months ago).

Size up by 1/2 size if you are purchasing based on Euro sizes. Their shoes are on the narrow side.

Leather is nice and soft, however, creases very easily. Stitchin/finishing is pretty decent for its price range.

Never tried Meermins before so can't comment. Perhaps someone else can answer your question.

I have 2 pairs of Ed's shoes and 1 pair of Meermin's boots. My Ed's are the $300+ range.
They are rather comparable. Not great, but they are goodyear welted. I find my Meermin a bit more comfortable out of the box.

I have 2 pairs of Eds and they are good value for money. The creasing is a problem, but I do wear them up to 4 times a week. They are in shoe trees if not worn. The shoes take a while to break in, and I had really pain heels for almost a month. Maybe the fit wasn't perfect, but for that price, I can't get anything better locally.

Another name that seems to go off radar are the Loakes 1880.. I'm looking to get a pair of black oxfords or semi brogues at around that price range (400ish). I'm wondering if they are a level up from Ed. Anyone with both to make a comment? I'm on 40 on Ed so what should I be looking at for Loakd 1880? 6.5 or 7? How about Meermins?

So apart from the creasing problem, does the leather season well also? hehehe currently they having GSS sale of 20% leh

Hihi, did you have to size up or down for the Meermins as compared to the Eds?

I am normally a UK 9, but i have a high instep.

On Meermin's Hiro last, i took a 9.5. For both my Ed's (wholecut and double monk), I had to take 9.5 as well.

Other than Meermin Hiro and Ed's, I am always in UK9 (Herring, Cheaney, Carmina's Rain etc). The more important thing for me appears to be the instep and width.

Disclaimer: I am not familiar with Meermin's other lasts or any of Ed's.
