I went down to metro centerpoint to try on loake 1880 capital last aldwych. Seems like capital last is slightly larger. I'm size 9.5 on Carmina rain last, but fits well on size 9 capital last. Anyone else has the same experience?

The capital last is slightly wider in width as compared to the rain last, in the same size.

Did you happen to notice if they have half sizes now?

Sent from Xiaomi MI 3W using GAGT

Imho will be no. I think those shoes are honestly not going to move. People who apprec them know where to get them much cheaper n people who don't... Don't.

In the meantime, appreciate the opportunity to try albeit no half sizes before they get pulled out of sg retail market

Reno should only be used sparingly. Maybe once or twice a year. Reno strips some of the wax, but not all. If the leather feels dry then you can condition more often. Cream can also work.

Thanks arc. So that means once polished and shined, as part of regular maintenance, apply reno or cream sparingly only when the leather looks dry, because the reno will strip some wax. If not, it'll just be wax to upkeep the shine.

Is Renovateur more than just a leather conditioner? It acts like a cleaner too? Will cream strip any wax?

Like I said before, reno can be used once or twice a year, depending on how often you wear the shoes. Unless you need to remove some wax to recoat, you shouldn't need to use Reno much.

Just follow the normal maintenance of brushing, conditioning and cream. Then use wax only on areas which will not flex.

TBH, I always thought that renovateur was more a conditioner than a cleaner which can be used fairly regularly, unless one is concerned about ruining a wax polish (which I can confirm it will, if anyone has doubts). It was like the "must have" product whenever someone asks about a decent shoe care regime.

But recent literature I come across tend to be consistent with arc's advice. i.e. not to use reno often as it is more a cleaner and comes with side effect of drying out the leather.

Somewhat confused whether reno is more a cleaner or conditioner now.

But as it turns out, I have gotten quite lazy and with a decent rotation of shoes, the frequency of going through the "full" process (which for me is reno + wax) has been cut down to levels recommended by arc :s13:

Any recommendation for shoes in Tokyo? Budget below 300

No experience. But sounds quite difficult in a city where material goods are generally known to be pricey, assuming your base criteria would include GYW construction and full grain calf leather (or just either one criterion for that matter).

Short of insider information of superb value-for-money Japanese maker/brand meeting your budget, your best bet would be a visit to Isetan Shinjuku Men's, world renown for its variety of dress shoes.

Good luck and give an FR too if you do visit!

I'm not sure if there are any worth buying at that price...

But FWIW, Union Imperial (very decent stuff, handwelted too) impressed me the most for the Japanese RTW stuff.
Thing is, they're 500ish SGD, IIRC.

If the goal is to remove the built up wax then reno is what you should use. Best to condition and cream after that before you wax.

Same for me... with many pairs.. it's hard to spend time to do that so many times for each pair... Until a pair gets scuffed enough, i'll just keep wearing them until I need to polish again before the routine starts again.

compared to the likes of loake 1880?

most of them are 300-400 ish

Loake 1880 is a tad better for sure.

Price doesn't determine better quality shoes in Japan.

In general, the do everything in house in Japan. Thus labour costs ain't cheap.

Even Mcdonalds is more costly.

With the exchange rate now. Don't bother.. Got Isetan Shinjuku or Mitsukoshi Ginza for a shoe galore moment and try on sizes. Wait for Black Friday and get it online.

This is an accurate statement.
Not just in Japan, but in the entire world.
