I hear you. Shukey stocks quite a good variety across a few brands as well. But I have yet to see those particular threads..

Will be dropping by kips and kwiks to install sole protectors for my shoes soon. Workmanship from Shukey has been a bit lacking recently. The vibrams don't adhere to the shoe, even after bringing it back to them to remedy..

Sent from LGE LG-H815 using GAGT

I have some done with those patterns on some of my shoes. Feels a little more plastic to me though. Nonetheless, they are still vibrams.

Glad I found this thread!

Hey guys, just a quick post to say it's great to find this thread for SG! I must have been living under the rocks.

Relatively new to good shoes (a couple of years), and have ended up with a few Allen Edmond pairs from my US trips, Loake and even a navy Carmina cordovan which I love. Now learning to take care of them!

Btw, is there a thread for selling pairs between the community?

Welcome to the thread, I don't think selling/advertising is allowed within this sub-forum but I think it's a great idea though. Myself and a few others in this thread do have shoes that we're trying to off-load...

No thread, but there's carousell.
You might see some stuff you like.
Alternatively, if you're an 8.5UK in most shoes, you can come to my place to browse around.
I am getting tired of many pairs.

Vass shoes

Cheers, will wait for more guidance on how to do this.

Aside, can anybody here share if they've used a Vass distributor here in Singapore to help with sizing/ordering from Budapest? Do they still have one here with RTW collection? Saw a couple mentioned on old threads... Thanks!

That sounds like fun! Could learn a few things too. (I am an 8/8.5UK)
You can PM me details? Or maybe you could organize a mini trunkshow :)

Everytime I see such posts from you I feel so sad.... Why is your feet bigger? Why....? Haha....

I'd probably go broke just by getting all those beautiful shoes from you that you're tired of...

Nice vid but wrong terminology. Goodyear welt is a machine made process. This is a handwelt, though they didnt carve a holdfast.

People like DWFII will have an aneurysm lol

The vid / construction method is bewildering to say the least.
I don't even know what to call it.
I can't call it Goodyear since there's no gemming. But you could probably call it some strange form of hand welt.
If you notice, after the lasting of uppers is done, he immediately glued a shank in place, and proceeded to paste a ? Synthetic ? leather layer over it. And THEN started the inseaming.
The inseaming thread passed through this layer that lies on top of the shank, then through the welt.
This is opposed to conventional hand welting (even if stitching aloft) where the inseaming happens after lasting and before the shank is placed, and the inseaming thread goes directly through the insole (holdfast).

Indeed weird to see the leather layer placed over the uppers instead of below it.

I'm guessing the two glued layers of leather are a result of the unusual placement of the shank, which makes it impossible to use one thick piece of sole leather (cost cutting?)

But the inseaming thread is awled through both the soles, welt and upper, so it still looks pretty sturdy, aside from potential de-lamination issues at the shank layer.

Leather looks real but its definitely not your typical thick oak barked tanned standard from the (seemingly) looser fibres.

For anyone wondering what a proper thick leather looks like for carving a holdfast, it looks like this

Saw on an article online that selected models of Allen Edmonds are on discount - can't remember till when though.

Anyone can share what their lasts and sizing are like? Specifically, looking for a broader last.

After much reading, and testing Loake (Robinson) Barker (Metro), I finally went over to Carmina @Capitol. Was flabbergasted by the service of the ang moh there. Patient and answered all my noob question, allowed me to try different last.

As I have suspected, some of the lasts really didnt fit me, the closest one is forest last uk8.5. I tried Barker 463 last at size 8 seemed more fitting.

I really felt like getting a simple black oxford calf from Carmina, and from there learn as much as possible then possibly get my brown shoes online. However I read that Carmina is quite mark up in SG, abit hesitant.

Any advice from a budding shoe enthusiast? My aim is to get good quality shoes which will last me at least 5 years with care.

Thanks

Had the same good service at the store too.

The gentleman in question is Hector and he comes from their Barcelona store.

Very friendly and with a real passion for Carmina shoes.
