Certainly learn something new everyday. Always thought Vass shoes always came with trees included. Must have been quite the price drop locally then haha?

But lasted trees totally worth it, the only time idm splurging on trees

Hehe here's another thing I learnt today - trees for cordovan slightly wider than for calf. Atleast at Vass.

Bought two pairs:
Burgundy Cordovan - Double Monk.
Grey Museum Calf - Old English Oxford. (model 1052)

https://goo.gl/photos/9HMusFVZxJ5KtueA7

Both in the F last, 42.

For both, add in shoe trees, belts, shoe creams - total price was SGD 1500.

**
Sizing notes if it helps:

K last too narrow for me, U will need a slight width modification (width of 42.5), and all others fit at 42.

Great price at 1.5K, you even manage to get matching belts! Probably be paying close to that for just a pair of shell cordovan Vass with KS :D

As for sizing, I'm 41 in F, 41.5 in U and 42 in K last heh :s13:

Hey, can I clarify if your "regular" size for non-Vass brands is 41 or 41.5?

The sizes you mentioned are based on the "non-adjusted" versions of the F,U and K lasts? (As in since all Vass are more or less, MTO, I understand they can adjust the lasts slightly to factor in more width if necessary)

I'm UK7.5 in Hiro last for Meermin if you need a EU sizing comparison. That said, Hiro fits very snug on me and that's the only Meermin last I have to worn. I'm also US8.5D in AE 65 last.

Yup, non adjusted although the K last has a higher instep due to the size 42 I suppose...

Thanks. Based on a crude conversion, seems like u take U last in your "regular" size (mapped to US9.5 or UK7.5), size down for F last and size up for K last

I don't have any Vass shoes but their split toe Norweger always intrigued me.

Can anyone share with me their experience with the Peter last? How is the width and instep compared to other common lasts (Carmina's or Loake's or Enzo's or Edward Greens)?

I have a high instep (which works in Rain and 946 and most of the English shoemakers' last).

Thanks.

This is just me, but if I'm shelling out > $1000 on a pair, I'd either go with Enzo calf and keep the change, or top up some more and go with Meccariello.
After wearing them, my navy shell wholecuts are probably one of my biggest regrets.

Digged this but can I ask why?

1) Shell has an annoying plasticky tacky sheen.
2) Feels stiff and wears stiffer than good regular calf.
3) Shell is not even leather in the first place. And thus has no grain, no surface texture to speak of.
4) The "rolls" look like crap.
5) Has a ridiculous up charge (Wtf for, really). Just because it's "rare"? Gold painted s**t is rare too. Will I pay money for it? F**k no.
6) Shell looks like s**t after some rain.
7) Shell's original use wasn't even intended for shoes in the first place. But rather as strops for barbers. Imo, it should have stayed that way. (This is a minor point).
8) Gimmicky, gimmicky, gimmicky.

I have a pair of Enzo Chukka in shell, and i echo some of these sentiments as well.
Very plasticky and stiff.

Shell is leather. But its roughout leather

the Grain is actually on the underside

I think thundermarch is saying shell not skin of calf but is butt of horse.

Urban I agree with what you said, but I believe that in the original post thundermarch did mention "Shell is not even leather in the first place. And thus has no grain, no surface texture to speak of."

In which case LHB is correct as well. Even if it made out of a horse's ass it still is leather, no matter how strongly you feel about it.
