Yes, I would play around with the different currency options to get the best deal against our local currency.

The currency of billing is always in the home currency of the retailer. What appears on the website is an indicative rate only.

I am not sure if the FX rate gets locked in at point of credit card payment, I believe it is locked-in only if you decided to pay in your local currency there and then (this option is available for in-store purchases based on my experience overseas).

If the SGD amount is only determined at a later date when you are being billed, then one is subject to the FX fluctuation in the period between point of online payment vs actual billing.

Generally, the FX rate at that point is just a general indication. After you submit your CC details on the website, the merchant still has to submit / process some kind of payment request on their end. Only when your CC company receives this "request" does the charge get registered and the rate finalised at that point. Might be a difference of a few hours to a few days.
I'm not sure of the correct terms, but I'm told this same thing every time I call up my CC company to check on transaction amounts.

Yes, the foreign currency conversion rates on the Internet is just an general indication of how much you can expect to get billed on your cc statement.

Based on my limited back end knowledge.. For each transaction done with your credit card, paid by E.g Visa, visa will lock in a conversion rate with the online store. Visa will then settle the payment directly with the online store, charging the online store about 3% as visa fees. (This could be one of the reasons why some of our tailors or other small businesses don't have nets or credit card machine in their store)

Visa will then bill the credit cardholder's bank, which the bank will pay on behalf of the cardholder first. The bank will then bill the cardholder whatever amount visa bills the bank, with a couple of % in bank admin fees (aka commission).

This whole process generally takes around 2 - 3 working days for most banks. That is also why sometimes you see the rate on Google is 1 Eur = 1.5 SGD, but your statement comes in to be at 1.55 SGD

That say, bank employees do enjoy staff rates too.. But that's another story.

Hi guys,

Any of you replace the original insole in your gyw shoes with 3rd party insole for more comfortable feeling?

Example of the insole is from this amazon link:
https://www.amazon.com/Powerstep-Orthotic-Insoles-Original-11-11-5/dp/B005AFHP8K/
Any idea where to buy this foam insole here locally?

First day wear my gyw shoes and my feel excessive sore on my insole area due to lack of cushion.

Thanks.

PSA for all!!

Allen Edmonds is having their factory seconds flash sale now. Maybe someone might want to create an MO to share shipping fees?

When I shop online I'm charged in the home currency by default. Currency exchange rates are based on when the amount is processed by master a few days later.

The google exchange rate doesn't account for inyerbank fees which is where the fluctuation comes from. You will never enjoy the google rates.

Quick one. Loake Rothschild Oxford or LLYR Oxford?
Had Loake Aldwych before. LLYR tried it. Had to size up.
In the long run, which would be more lasting?
Price wise, about 30 bucks difference from the Herrings Sale and LLYR 30% off selected RTW going on.

From touching and seeing Loake 1880 and Llyr shoes in person, I thought the quality of upper used in the Loakes were slightly better, can't tell which will last longer though.

Assuming I like the looks of both equally
