I think for corrected grain shoes, no amount of creaming (lol) can help the leather. because the cream cannot penetrate the leather.
A little wax might help.

That said, corrected grain leather comes in different qualities as well.

You may want to get a shoe tree and let ur shoes rest for 1day BTW wear. Will help to elongate the life.

That I already do actually, both shoe trees and rotation.

With regards to avoiding shoes that have been stored too long.... there is really no way to go around the problem apart from NOT buying the shoes that look like it has been sitting around for awhile, or if the leather appears dry and lifeless.

We might not be able to change what the retailer does, or chooses to sell, but the important thing is making informed decisions as a consumer.

As for the second part of the question, the vamp actually refers to a part of the shoe, not your feet.
For an oxford, it refers to the area in between the captoe and the laces. For plain toe models or wholecuts, it refers to the same approximate area.
It is the area that flexes the most and undergoes the most stress, and is also, correspondingly, made with the "best cut" of leather. Or at least, it's supposed to be.
Try to picture your foot flexing within your shoe where your toes bend. The vamp sits directly above this area.
If there is too much volume in this area, you will be able to feel it immediately even before you walk.
It may also manifest as excessive creasing on the vamp after a few wears.

I think it's a little difficult to say as a whole, if Asians in general have wider / narrower feet or if they have a higher / lower instep. Have heard many different things. Josh (local shoemaker) feels that many Asians have wider feet, but at the same time, Enzo Bonafe, and even Meermin, have made narrow lasts to specifically cater to an Asian (Japanese) market. I have met many guys who have high insteps, and many who have pretty low insteps, all Singaporean.

Ultimately, you need to try on the shoes and wear them for a period to make a judgement on fit.

I notice that you are around the same foot size. If you are looking to buy / try on anything, you can drop by sometime. I'm an 8.5, most of the time.

Thanks for the clarification on the terminology. Was aware of the part of the shoe, but thought the foot area might be called the same thing. But you're right I guess, way too much variability to even begin to generalise.

Thank you for the offer too!

^ time for you to get some Loakes with "SCARY20"

Thanks for the heads up! Have been meaning to get a pair of 1880s, but the only thing that's holding back is that I've not been able to try on a pair of capital lasted shoes in the size I think I am - 8.5. Locally only full sizes I think.

In the current range I don't think there's an equivalent last to what I've got other than capital I think :( at least not in my preference: GYW, leather sole, non boots.

Pediwear can come without the shoetree and get free shipping
But why so worry abt the shoe tree as they are generic and not lasted so just buy form taobao and you get a decent shoetree as well for less than 20. Currently robinson shoes having 20% discount and free shipping is very cheap. Downside is after you pay and they dont have stock, they may ask u to wait for few weeks.

Where did you get the code from? Cant seem to see when the promo ends.

Also, does anyone know whats the main difference between Capital and Legend last?

I hav shoes in both lasts. Legend last is really ugly, regret my purchase. It's a slight square toe, and has a oddly shaped curve.
Go for Capital!

Bump for my GMTO:

Currently 3 participants, waiting for 1 more to go ahead with this GMTO.

So to summarize the GMTO AIAD and I have in mind:

Model: Button shoe (not boots)

Design: Plain captoe balmoral style with plain stitching.

Sides will be like pic A below and not the straight across kind and there will not be broguing.

Color: Black calf for bottom, Loden suede for top. There will be a centre line where the lace will be as with all button boots but we will use the same suede material so there will not be a contrast there like what you see in pic B.

Sole: Preference for single sole with topy. If anyone has any thoughts, let me know.

Last: Likely the 946

Pic A:

Pic B:
MG_2435-1024x822.jpg

Pic B pretty much sums up the design of the shoe sans the contrasting centre line on the suede part and the seam that runs on the side of the shoe.

Anyone out that that is keen, let me know! :D

I'm planning to run it through Lusso if we get enough people on board.

Where is a good place to try out or uy Dr Martens in Singapore? I was at Orchard Gateway last weekend, tried the Conrad, like it but they do not have my size, I wanna try 1 size smaller.

I am thinking to go somewhere else to try. Does OG bugis sell Dr Martens? or the shops at Peninsula Plaza?

I have a pair of llyr shoes, and the front of the sole has torn. The part where the stitching is, has torn a bit, and its flapping around now. Is there a quick fix, or do I have to get it re-soled? I'm thinking of just getting it vibram-ed. Cheaper.
Other than the Junction 8 place, is there any near Tiong Bahru? Has anyone tried the cobbler at TB Plaza's basement?

A picture might help.
If it is the welt that is torn, there might be problems that even a re sole might not fix

I reckon you should bring it back to LLYR to let them have a look at it prior heading to get it fixed.

Here's how it looks like. LLYR quoted $150 for a resole.. which is half the price of the shoe. And i've only worn it for a year. Argh... I blame those stupid 'bricks' with holes in them. Always catching the front in them.

Darn, they look like they've been through a bit.
But at least the welt looks intact, and most of the damage seems to be to the outsole.
So yes, you'll need a re-sole.... definitely.
No quick fix for this.
