Great shop and service. You can definitely trust them, I got my C&J from them more than 10 years back, they used to have some kind of exclusive deal where their C&Js were cheaper than anywhere else, which incurred the wrath of other retailers, as is happening now somewhere in a nordic country. Good things don't last but they have some other decent shoes from Loakes and Cheaney.

With the ringgit nosediving, it might be a good deal. They have shoecare products too.

Advise Needed

Hi All,

I have been wearing Pedro/Ecco/Everbest type of shoes for the past 7 years.
Been changing them about once every 1-2 years. My newest pair is breaking down now and I have been sourcing for a new pair of leather working shoe.
By some chance, I came upon this forum thread and I realised what I have been missing out.
I shortlisted Ed et al and Carmina. Can any master advise me what are their differences and what should I be looking out for?

In short, price, fit and leather quality.

Price - Carmina will be pricier than Ed, more so depending on whether you buy it at the boutique in Singapore or online.

Fit - one or the other would fit you better. If you're lucky, both will fit you. Depending of whether you need wide widths, you may only have the option of going to Ed with a special order.

Leather quality - while Ed's range has been improving in terms of leather quality, I feel that Carmina is still way ahead. If you're crazy about patinas then you can go to Ed or Septieme. Otherwise, Carmina online is well worth the money.

Depending on your priority of the above 3, you will need to decide what you want pay for.

Thanks arcfire!
A few quick question: what are the price range of Ed and Camina?
I have a pretty big feet: US 12/ UK45-46 and a flat foot
I always had difficulties buying shoes that's why I frequent Pedro as they have my size and their design is trendy. But as you know, their quality is pretty poor.
Now as I'm older now, I decided comfort should take priority.
Will prefer to try out the shoe in brick and motar as I'm pretty fearful of buying online due to unable to try out the fit. I heard carmina as an outlet in capitol.
How does the leather quality affect anything? Is it the durability or comfort?

I think it will be better to state your budget. Carminas and Ed's exist in different price ranges.

Also GYW shoes will start off a lot more uncomfortable than what you've been used to.

Consider Loakes, Meermins and Ed's for your first purchase before graduating to Carmina?

You're going to need 2 pairs anyway to keep your shoes in shape.

Wow that is big... Ed doesn't usually stock large sizes from what I've heard. You should give them a call to check before heading down. Carmina I'm not too sure, you should call in advance as well.

In terms of leather quality, from my perspective will partially determine how easy they are to break in and how comfortable they are during the breaking in period. Other than that it's how well you take care of the shoes. They will definitely not last forever if you wear them daily and not take care if them. We usually have at least 2 pairs to rotate... Some of the Bros here have enough shoes to rotate everyday for 2 weeks. :D

If your priority is comfort, take note that it will likely be uncomfortable for you during the breaking in period, very much different from the shoes that you are used to.
