Hi there, pardon my ignorance coz I haven't done any research on leather shoes before.

Is there a difference between polished and calf leather?

"Polished" leather has a plastic-y finish. It has an unnatural shine. There is either no grain or sometimes, an embossed grain. It breathes more poorly and ages badly. The finish can be damaged or even flake off the leather below due to the added layer of plastic-y chemicals on top of the leather. Acquire a pair of full-grain calf leather shoes rather.

I prefer Fedex where they bill the GST amounts later. That way, I don't have to leave standby money with my helper in case they arrive when i am not there.

Hi all

I've been following this thread for a while and have been considering my first foray into GYW shoes

Purely based on cost factors I have narrowed down my choices to LLYR and Edetal. I went down to both stores earlier today and they are very similar fit-wise.

What I am more concerned about is leather creasing. Whilst I appreciate that creasing is by no means an indicator of poor leather quality, it is a personal preference that my shoes have a cleaner look. Given that I am considering resoling the shoes in future, ideally the leather would hold up in the long run. I do use shoe trees and condition/cream my shoes on a regular basis so we can take that out of the equation.

Unfortunately I am unable to tell the extent of future creasing by trying on the shoes in the store, so I would really appreciate it if anyone has owned either/both of these manufacturers' shoes and can shed some light on the matter. Any other information in terms of comparison would be incredibly helpful

LLYR Entry level are $297, while Ed are $349, correct? If u are willing to spend a bit more, get Loake 1880 range calf leather shoes online from robinsonshoes. Slightly more than $360 after discount and free delivery. The Loake leather are soft and ages well.

Ed previous collection creases badly. The current 6th collection still too new to be judged.

i was in the same situation as you. heard that EEA past season shoes creases a lot. decided to go for LLYR when they had their promo. its my first pair of GY welted shoes so i dont have much to compare with, but was pretty happy with how they fit when i was trying them on (tho only time will tell when you are walking in them for extended periods)

have a question for the experts.. just ordered a pair of shoe trees from TB, what other shoe-care accessories can be purchased from there? any brands or links would be extremely appreciated as well. thanks.

A good read:

Dasco shoe care products (including horsehair brush) are available at Mustafa. You can acquire a horsehair brush for <$10.

As for creams/waxes polish that can be acquired locally,

Saphir: Tangs Orchard
Collonil 1909: Ed Et Al
Burgol: Mason & Smith

Which Dasco products would you recommend? I used their shoe cream before and it was very difficult to work with =s

I have no experience (maybe not yet) with Dasco creams and waxes polish. I own a couple of their horsehair brushes though. I've always fancy Saphir shoe care products due to the ease of application and results.

Maybe in the near future, I intend to acquire Glen Karen shoe care products. Saw mixed reviews by Jesper from shoegazing though. But the thought of smelling citrus scent during shoe care maintaining is alluring and comforting. Hah. But well, some of us here are already "addicted" to the characteristic Saphir scent.

aiyo ... why u never check here before ordering your shoe tree from TB? You should have ordered the horsehair shoebrush from TB together.

Shoe cream, u can get Saphir or Collonil 1909. I'm using the 1909, bought from the clobber at clementi mall basement.

Saphir doesn't come with quick applicators=(.
