The flap at the penny loafers looks weird imo. You can check out meermin loafers or loake penny loafers (embankment or Highland model)

Depending on how you view it.. It can be worn dressy or casual... IMO

Noticed that there is a preference for Strait European Lacings.

Why not try the alternative Strait Bar Lacings? IMO, looks a little bit more neater without the crisscrossing laces below the top strait lacings. And a little bit more comfortable.
Works best on shoes/boots with even pairs of eyelets.

I laced all my shoes using a criss cross lacing method. It does not look tidy but it is the easiest to wear and remove. Plus the length of each end is almost always equal.

I find the straight bar lacing to be neat, but not practical.

The method you highlighted here is intended for even number of eyelets.

What is a straight european lace? Seems like all the previous pics feature bar lacing?

Why is it not practical? It does take some time to get both to even length. Then need some time to get used to learning how to loosen the laces by pulling the right bars.
Been using straight bar lacing on some of my shoes and it's indeed more comfortable without the criss cross laces pressing against your instep especially for my tighter pair of shoes

IMO

Outside of fashion and wealth flaunting purposes, the affection for craft quality often accompanies an elevation and appreciation of time honored traditions.

It is a statement, of an individual who seeks to express (no matter how slight) their appreciation of an era lost, of handwork, skill and provenance over the often slip-shod quality and short lifespans of modern Consumerism with their inbuilt EoL cycles, or the soulless electronic efficiency of technological progress.

So I'd hazard that the Euro Straight is commonly worn for what it is, a representation and a subtle nod to tradition, an anachronistic flair of times past. :D

nice to read a positive post regarding the flipside of why others may prefer euro straight lacings.

i'm not so much for tradition, so may not think the way others do.

and my post wasn't meant to be judgemental, it was more of wondering why euro straight lacings is much preferred over straight bar lacings.

learned quite a bit from posts such as yours just by lurking around this thread.

not so much into giving my 2 cents everytime i feel like it, cos i really do have much better things going on in my live.:D
