Ends midnight Monday 5-Oct. For those thinking to get Loake and Barker, this is a good deal.

Shoe care product, matching leather belt also entitled to the discount. Can get the Collonil 1909 shoe cream/wax.
I see thanks! By the way how are barker shoes if you have experience with them? Didn't come across a lot of information regarding them online

mine is EU 42 / UK8 / US 8.5 approx for both shoes, yeah idk why didnt fit. on the contrary my LLYR shoe trees fit them both perfectly. :/ i guess it may be better to get lasted shoe trees from the same brand itself, greater piece of mind

Sometimes it is the width that is the problem. Your shoe could be narrower than the width of the shoe tree. It is best to use a tape measure (else use string method) and measure the width and length of the shoes and compare to the shoe tree seller's listed dimensions.
I have purchased shoe trees from different TB sellers and although they are marked as the same size, the dimensions are different.
I tried the same shoe tree on different shoes and fit differently, where the shoe tree cannot fit into some of my shoes which are narrower.

PM me your shoe's measurements, I might have a shoe tree that can fit.

But meermin leather also don't crease as much. My 3 year old pair of meermin can still make people think it's a new pair.

Yeah I guess that's the upside, but some dudes may prefer otherwise haha. I finally taken them for a spin after wearing them for a week on and off at home. Heel slip is definitely there, but the width is really good for my moderately wide feet. No pains there whatsoever. Just need to remind myself to put on thicker socks in the future :s12:

i have a question...

i am new to leather shoes so only had rockport, clarks, geox before. all under $150, with rubber soles. recently i took a look of those so called good english shoes. i am surprised (or shocked) to see some of the good ones actually have leather out soles...

there is no question regarding the benefits of flexibility/breathable/comfort of leather soles but i am wondering are they feasible for wearing in Singapore? let's say i walk 2km everyday outdoors and no matter how i am being careful, it will occasionally but definitely get wet during rainy days. i have to step on the wet ground right? hehe.. i am seriously wondering how could these leather soles be possibly lasting?

in fact the weather in london is nowhere better than singapore. there is so much rain/wet/dirty road there. and yet those english men wearing english shoes with leather soles???

it seems to me that not only i need to take care of upper portion of these shoes but under portion needs serious maintenance as well...anyone here wearing shoes with leather soles? i am very curious..

Easiest way is to put sole protectors after breaking the shoe in.

I'm assuming when you refer to "English Shoes" with leather soles, you mean Goodyear Welted shoes. These shoes are re-soleable and waterproof. Thus if the sole really wears out it'll be an easy fix to resole them which will result in a shoe which is as good as new.

You answered your question yourself regarding material durability lol. :s13:

Leather soles, esp oak bark tanned are very tough. With a proper rotation and rest, a good leather sole can last for years, even in inclement weather. Emphasis on Rotation and Rest however.

Just dont expect the same wear characteristics as a rubber sole but neither does that mean that one material is of magnitudes superior than the other.

However, some of us topy our soles to maximise longevity for the sole(lol) advantage those Englishmen have that we dont. They are just a stroll away from the factory while we have the glorious Atlantic and subsequent shipping costs to contend with when the inevitable day comes that resoling is necessary.

A mild case of Penny pinching that's what it is but shoe soles are made to step on shiat, you dont have to baby them.

yes i mean goodyear welted shoes. is the leather sole waterproof? i would guess very limited water resistance since they are leather...

how frequent is the re-sole required? re-sole can be done in Singapore? for loake for example, i guess have to ship it back to UK?

oh yea there is such thing like vibram rubber half soles specially for leather soles..i think that's a must. but again, it only protect the under portion of sole not the side of leather sole. the side of sole will get wet too in a rainy day. i guess rotation is the only answer..

Resole can be done in SG. The shoes are waterproof due to the way the soles are attached (stitching). If you put sole protector you wouldn't need to resole, just replace the sole protectors when they wear out.

I'm not sure how long the soles will last but my goodyear welted shoes with sole protectors have lasted a year+

Anybody know where I can resole my clarks desert boot and for how much? Been wearing these babies for like 2 years and now the gum sole is starting to leak water through, really bad when it rains.

Here's the devil's advocate on the other side.
I am for not doing the rubber (vibram or others) sole. I wear most of my shoes as-is. I don't attach toe taps or rubber soles. If it rains, i just air them for a longer period. And of course shoe rotation helps a lot in keeping the shoes in good shape.

So far, i have never had water seep in from the bottom or welt of a GYW shoe.
In the past, my normal glued shoes will start breaking down after 9 months of wear as the glue starts to give way.

A proper GYW recraft/resole will be over a 100 bucks, more than the cost of a bnib CDB. Normally people do it for pairs with expensive uppers where the leather itself is worth 100s. And of course for sentimental reasons with regards to cheaper RTW models. No one does it here locally and its all sent to Vietnam (EEA) or Japan (M&S).

Maybe a lower level kind of repair would be to grind down the crepe sole to a level plane then glue on a new sole ala Shukey's macgyver style repair of local RW pairs. Dont opt for the sewing option as they'll just blake stitch it and you'll have threads aloft in ur sock liner in a GYW shoe :s22:

P.s but you mentioned water seeping through the sole. Maybe the cork bed layer is also compromised, which can only be solved the the full recraft. No idea until theres pics
