Thing is, moderate is quite hard to quantify - one reason why I've not actually pulled the trigger on buying online is the inherent lack of ability to try.

My benchmark would be that if u don't have a width problem with sneakers (ie at most needing an E fit), u can prob take the capital last with 0.5 upsize.

If u always needed super wide sneakers, then yes, better be safe.

Capital last is fine for moderately wide feet. Size up 0.5 if necessary. Happy shopping!

Head to Metro Centrepoint. They carry one of the loake brouge boots which is in capital last.

I am a US size 9.5 mostly. But i am a comfy fit on the loake capital UK8.5. And managed a snug fit on the UK8.

Noob question:
Which is a more "essential" shoe, 1. White jack purcell style leather sneakers
Or
2. Burgundy tassel loafers?

Wouldn't that depend more on your outfits? Burgundy tassels and the converse are on two very far end of the spectrum. In any case, a snuff suede loafer should be more versatile as well as opposed to a burgundy one. If you're still interested in the purcells, I saw plenty on decent discount at end clothing. Extra 15% off with code "extra15"

#1. It is more versatile for casual clothes. You can rock it with shorts/bermudas.
That's what I thought so too. However, just curious would you wear the loafers for work/on the weekend as well?

Well, it's a hypothetical question which can be answered based on your personal opinion=)

In my office, i can actually wear the JP sneakers on fridays as well. Of course loafers (nicely shined and cleaned) are okay for my office any day of the week.

Unfortunately I can't do that at my office. Would you pair tassel loafers for your weekend wear and with shorts?

Why not? I wear all sorts of loafers with shorts on weekends. String, driving, penny, tassel.....

Loafers for office wear for me would be determined by the last and shape of the loafers. Calf as opposed to suede would be more suitable.

If you had to go with burgundy, I think penny loafers would be more versatile then sneakers.

Thanks for sharing! In my case I guess the loafers would see more mileage even though the sneakers I'm eyeing are pretty sweet.

my 2 cents:

There is a wide variety of loafers e.g. driving, string, moccasins, boat, tassels etc. Some variety of the non-GYW loafers may well wear more casual than a pair of classic white Jack Purcells.

Conversely, GYW leather soled loafers, regardless of the upper, immediately ups many notches in terms of looking 'formal'.

Also how casual one's outfit matters. T-shirt n shorts vs shirt n shorts exude fairly different levels of casualness/smartness.

Personally, I would not want to match T-shirt and shorts with leather sole loafers.

The versatility of good quality minimalist sneakers is pretty 'well documented' (or GPGT-ed) on the internet so....

TLDR - minimalist sneakers FTW in terms of versatility w/o more specific info on the loafers in the comparison.

Considerations brought up earlier stand. Personally i would wear those loafers with shorts only if paired with shirt or smart polo. Those loafers can easily match dress shirt and pants too.

The sneakers should go well pretty much any top with shorts.

For me, it boils down to your typical weekend attire, and ultimately your personal preference and comfort level.

Poor man no money lah. I would get both if I could!

I agree! However part of my consideration is I only get 2 days a week to wear the sneakers (1 if I rest them for 1 day after each wear) and I already have a few pair of casual-only shoes. For the loafers, I have potentially 4 days even with rotation. I'm also moving away from wearing t-shirts on weekends as I feel that I've outgrown them...

I guess I just answered my own question huh.

But those sneakers.. So pretty....

My opinion is, in order to place tassel loafers in the same ball park as white leather sneakers, the loafers gotta be in suede.

Otherwise, they're not really in the same hemisphere in terms of function, especially in burgundy calf.

Having said that, I'd do white leather sneakers first before tassel loafers. They gotta have a "lux" vibe though. Clean cut, high quality leather, good construction. Jack Purcels don't cut it.
