Their mto is still goodyear welted. Just you can choose the design and leather and modify the specs slightly if they allow.

Please clarify what you mean by goodyear welting by hand.

I have been looking for custom shoes and rtw shoes, why you choose diamond walker?
I just saw their facebook page and they look very flashy, is their shoes comfy?
I have to stand around for the whole day and I want comfort :s22:

I have 3 pairs of Ed Et Al shoes

1 loafer from first collection: Amoy Quee (Workmanship not very good, but decent wear, got it at discount at 2 hundred plus

2nd: Merlion II (Double Monkstrap) Notable improvement in workmanship

3rd: Loafer (One off design, not in the main look book)

In all, I think Ed Et Al's shoes are pretty decent, worth a try, though I have switched to Diamond Walker for custom shoes.

Both worth trying out

I agree about dismond walker being too flashy for me too.

You should try Ed Et Al, their shoes look great and service staff is very good and knowledgeable. Was a breeze to try on shoes and learn about how a shoe should fit

I went to Robinsons to trying on Loakes as well, to be honest i hated the feel of it, leather felt like plastic to be honest. Its really hard to find shoes in SG :(

For my first pair, Herrings, I went Robinson to try the sizes of Loake and Barker there to use as reference. Of course different lasts will fit differently but can use them as a reference when orderin online.
There is also Ed Etal

Like what boysdontcryy mentioned, Goodyear welted is a welting technique that can be done by hand or by machine.

I think the range you can find at Robinsons are not the full grain models. Most forumers usually recommend Loake only for their 1880 anniversary range!

DW - Diamond Walker

Aren't those Korean sh_it shoes made from fake leather?
If you dare, travel to those old towns in Europe and you will find forgotten pieces if you are lucky.

Another question. How about Bata ambassador shoes? Saw them in the stores and they even have leather soles for the incredible price of 59 dollars. Not sure if anyone has experience with them?

I will share briefly about my experiences at Ed and DW.

As a comparison, I have 3 shoes from Ed and 2 from DW. Not a lot, but decent.

First of all, i think Ed is a great local brand, and i would love to support them (hence the 3 pairs). Unfortunately the current lasts do not fit my feet well. My feet are not that long but wide. From what I heard from the Ed Sales people, the lasts are usually in width D and my feet is easily a EE. So when buying their shoes, I have to upsize and buy a 43. The length fits now but it is still too tight and after walking for a while, it hurts. So as much as pretty the shoes are, they are not comfortable in my case.

I have not tried their MTO services, but I understand it also based on choosing the pre existing lasts which will not work for me as their lasts are of the similar width.

While at DW, they have various lasts (they claim to be able to fit the smallest feet to the largest feet) which can cater to my feet as they are able to extend the width for my case. DW shoes can be flashy as per their recent postings, but they can also be done in classic colours, which many have done.

Similarly if you notice at Ed, there are also very flashy colours shoes being presented now.

So eventually I am not siding any side in particular. I am just looking for comfortable shoes that fit my feet well. So if DW can fit the bill why not? Plus I am also able to customize the colour of my leather on my shoes (which need not be flashy), and have my own unique pair of shoes, possibly the only one in SG. Why not again?

FYI, both my shoes are in classic colours
1 is a brown/loafer with blue tassels
2 is a blue leathered oxford with green leather on top (From Far it looks like black, but when near you can see the colours, quite an interesting combination)

I just want to stress at least to me that comfort is the most important. No point in wearing an expensive pair of branded shoes but it hurt like mad. Probably the ladies can go through that with their high heels, but i would give it a miss. =)

Around how much does Diamond Walkers cost?
Any idea what type of welting do they use and whether they do resole for their shoes?

Let me share my experience from Ed Et Al too then. Nothing personal, just frank comments.

Not exactly a pleasant first experience - be prepared to wait longer than the promised. And that after having to ask instead of being proactively updated.

Gives the impression that they're giving more emphasis on their more expensive MTO line, and their rumored-to-be more expensive new range launching soon.

Sounds familiar to how Dylan tailor's service has gone downhill since they achieved more success locally? Lets hope Ed rectifies that and proves me wrong. Will update again..

Starts from 399 for basic and goes up to 1k plus depending on what u choose

Over the past few months, they have upgraded their leather and also offering many designs now.

Provide more cementing (glue on) and hand seen

Not sure about resold but they are really friendly, look for Francis, great guy, love shoes and really know his shoes stuff/techniques very well

One thing good about DW is that you can just walk in anytime, don't have to make appointment, feel free to take a look at their various shoes designs on display and make your own decision if you want to do it

Francis would never force you to make any impulse buying and would actually encourage you to go back think about it

In fact he is actually more like a friend to me and would patiently explain to me if I have any queries. We can literally chat for a hour or so just on shoe stuff

Another plus point for me personally

Nope, definitely not saying that and not implying that as well, I was just sharing my personal preference and experience.

As I mentioned. I think Ed shoes are great and their rtw is already pretty awesome. Hearing people opinion is great. But you should give yourself and Ed a chance, look through their look book, and see which design you like and head down to 55 and try it out for yourself . Unlike clothing where you can still get a second opinion from someone else about the fit, you yourself can only make a valuable comment when you try on the shoes for yourself .

Some people like it snug. Some people like it tight, some like it loose. It really up to you,

Let me explain my first impressions today.

Emailed Edwin on Tuesday. Sounded very enthusiastic over email. Made an appointment for today evening.

Once there, I met Edwin and promptly got down to discussing about my shoes and how he could help me. There was no chit chat, no friendly banter. Maybe I'm too used to making small talk with my tailors. Literally no effort to know me more as a customer.

Having said that, he was extremely helpful and patient about getting my shoes done in the manner I wanted which was slightly complicated in my case due to my requirements. We went through the descriptions several times until I was assured he knew what I was describing before he proceeded to sketching.

I don't have the problems regarding lasts, in fact I thought they fit me great. I was in fact quite happy with the RTW shoes they allowed me to try on (completely in Italian calf leather). I was told their custom grades are made using Annonay leather so the increase in price is to factor for this.

As for whether there was any hard selling, Edwin did not push any products at all. When I wanted to opt for the higher grade leather that they have, he tried to convince me that there was no need for those as the default leather was already good (not too sure about that).

Eagerly waiting for the finished product, I hope I did not invest my money unwisely ($800). Will post pics in 2 months time.

Hi, maybe you should drop them an email again. I'm quite sure they have EE width for certain sizes.

Small point I like to make: $300 is cheap for goodyear welted shoes. I can't think of anyone who can do it at that price point in Singapore. There's a brand at MBS that does it and easily cost more than double of that.

I think the range you can find at Robinsons are not the full grain models. Most forumers usually recommend Loake only for their 1880 anniversary range!

I know for sure that 2 of the models that they offer there are corrected grain leather. Not to say that that's inherently bad, though.
